Supertarp

RG, the megatarp is a new shelter from Kifaru

Im was sure Aron did a review on the Megatarp (prototype maybe) on the Rokslide video central forum. It dosent look like its there any longer.

I use the BA Fly Creek UL2 currently.

I'm using a North Face Asylum Bivy. It weighs in at 1 lbs 10 oz. Its quick and easy to setup. I noticed condensation build up when I let the roof sag a little. After tightening it up, the condensation reduced to a minimal amount. I love that it sets up in only a minute or two, but has enough room to keep some of my gear inside with me at night (I'm 6'1"). I'll admit that I plan on getting a Kifaru Super Tarp next year with the Annex, just in case I'm expecting bad weather. Kifaru seems to have the best backcountry shelter system for most every environment.

Solo, GoLite SL-3, 2-3 people above treeline GoLite SL-5 with MLD nest, gonna be in an area with wood I'll take the BCS with the Ed T stove. 4 or more people is the Kifaru 12 man tipi with the Large Kifaru stove.

Luke, do you have enough shelters!!!??? ;)

Hilleberg Akto 1 man... Weighs a touch over 3lbs... No footprint, usually don't need it on the high country tundra :)

HAHA, have a 4 season free standing tent that I'll be using on Kodiak, a Cableas Guide Model 6 man, an Arctic Oven 10X10 for winter camping (google it), a GoLite SL-8 I'll use when I want a LOT of space to hangout in in addition to the Kifaru 12 man tipi ;), and a couple tarps and misc tents in there too.

Trust me though, they all have a purpose.

I'd like to hear more about this Kifau Megatarp..Any links

If I remember the video correctly, the great thing was you could enter and exit at both ends, had room enough for two, was stove compatible and light weight (kifaru). It was well worth checking out. I did a search and have'nt found any other info on the Megatarp.

Hell, maybe I was over served that night or had a crazy dream.. but im sure there's more info to come on it.

I'll post more info when I know Patrick won't shoot me, but it weighs 1lb 4 oz's, has dual entries and fits 2 people with gear.

Aron, I like the fact that you are going to take a bullet for us ultralight guys looking for a UL shelter. Fall on the sword big guy I got your back. phil

lastcall and Aron, Thanks it sounds interesting I may be glad I haven't pulled the trigger on a new shelter yet....

paratarp w/ stove for this year solo shelter. light, fast, and big enough for me. Packs down to absolutely nothing as well.

Id like a sawtooth in the future, w/ medium stove. For when im with another person.

The megatarp looked nice, maybe for those guys going solo who want alot of room. But going with another person i still think id choose the sawtooth for the weight.
