My savage 110 scoped is close to 10lbs. Being a small guy, I'd like to go lighter. I'm looking into the savage 110 ultralight. The weight makes it a very attractive option.

What caliber is your 110? And what ammo does it like?

Any mods to help get it there? I just bought a Hunter pro.
I'm now officially down to one rifle—my new Kimber Hunter in 6.5 CM. It really (really) likes the 143 gr ELD-X's :)

The biggest bang also happens to be free—about a 1/2 pound by simply removing the “gel” out of the rear of the stock. When removed, replace it with a spray in foam. There’s at least one write up on this site—20 minute job.

There’s a guy (on 24hourcampfire) that sells a couple different models of titanium bolts for the Kimber-shaves ~an ounce. Shortening the barrel yields roughly an ounce/inch.

That’s all I’ve done.

There’s a worthwhile thread here to read—something along the lines of “how light can you get your Kimber”

Not my main rifle, but definitely my lightweight bragging build:

Howa Mini in 6.5 Grendel. Pencil 20" barrel in a freshly rattle-canned Stockey's carbon stock, with an SWFA Ultralight in Talley rings.

One oz over five and a half pounds. I blame the bottom metal

The Hunter gel is 6oz on my digital scale. Amazing I found no difference in shooting it without it in my wife’s Hunter other than a slight amount of felt recoil. That Hunter shoots better than my Mountain Ascent.

The Hunter ready to shoot (gel added back) with sling and VX3 3.5-10x40 109 oz or 6.8lbs. Without the gel the Hunter would be lighter than the Mountain.

The Mountain Ascent with sling and VX5 3-15x44 108oz or 6.78lbs

There’s ~ 2 oz of gel in the pistol grip; more of a pain to get out vs the gel in the main stock.

If you plan on leaving the gel out, worth filling it with spray in foam—the foam weighs a tenth of an ounce, but keeps the stock quieter (less hollow).

Yeah I am aware. I was just supporting your point about the weight in the stock.

I didn’t bother pulling out the grip gel. I agree the stock can sound hollow without it and I put the gel back in rather than spray foaming. I had stuff some foam from a pelican case in it first but 6oz added back with a slightly less charged load and it has a break installed makes that Hunter a great shooter.
