What's your go to Coyote gun?

This year I am running a 22cm in 16" in a bolt action. Night time can be nice to run an ar platform for ease of folow ups, but feeding issues in cold atmosphere and dark can make for a not fun night.

I tried an AR for night time and i couldn’t stand chambering and unchamering a round in one. Dropping rounds on the ground, making a ton of noise.

Yep, I ran a 22 grendel before the arc was a thing and I used to run a brass catcher too to save my brass I had to form, a 223/556 in an ar would be the way to not worry about brass. I had an ar10 in 22 creed for a bit as well, but same deal picking up brass.

A bolt is solid and will also keep your ammo budget in check. With an ar it was always tempting to Chase them with a few follow ups

Shoot what you are confident with...there are enough differences hunting at night. You want to shoot something that you can handle with having to look at it. It's easy to mess up when it's dark

my current night rig is a 16 inch 22 arc with a DNT night vision scope slinging 62 gr eld-vts. With a 200 yard zero I'm holding hair past 300, hasn't given me an issue yet.

22 250 in a bolt gun wont be beat by anything. But often when i run into coyotes im hunting something else.

20” 22 creed shooting 69 eldvt is best I’ve found.

I have also used 20” 6.5prc with 100 eldvt with great success. It’s alot of gun but drops them drt

For a while it’s been an older bull barreled Savage .243 shooting the Hornady Superformance 75gr VMax at 3300ish. Had the barrel cut to 22” and threaded and I really love that gun/ammo combo. Coyotes are just about always DRT.

Also recently got a Noveske 6arc 18” upper for my AR and it is shooting the 80gr ELDVT really well. I’m optimistic about it. I think both would be great thermal set ups.
