Whats your Black Bear Caliber?

Shot my first last year with .308 and 168 eldm, this year will be .243 shooting 108 eldm or 95 nbt.

I've used a 7mm Rem Mag to harvest one and lost one. Really considering switching to a 300 PRC, 300 WSM, or 338-06
I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve killed a lot of bears with a 30/06, most with 168g Berger vld’s, and only two made it past 15yds. One went 30yds down a steep clear cut. The other was shot with my bow and it only went 20yds. The only bears our group has had to track or lost was due to bad shots. Your 7mm is more than enough, I’d use it with confidence.

I agree with the above post, the 7mm RM is more than enough. Any idea where you hit him and what bullet did you use? Double lung them and they die fast but if you don't they can go a long way and are tough customers.

Really depends on the distance you plan to shoot. But for me in the Appalachian Mountains, it's hard for me to hunt with anything besides a 3030. Everything else feels wrong 🤣

Shot my one and only black bear, in Pa, with a 348 Winchester. I stupidly sold that gun. Made a shot on the bear running, through the neck , in the timber at a little over 100 yards. One of the luckiest shots I ever made in my life.
Now, as far as what I would take today? 308, 7mm-08 or 284win. All three would be plenty.
