What’s the minimum number of arrows you’d go into a season with?

Currently have 6 of the now discontinued Easton Injexion’s. Feels right on the edge of what I’m comfortable entering a season with, especially considering I can’t just go buy more if I break a few right before the season opens.

What happens if you accidentally miss a few targets a week before season, then miss an animal? (Speaking from experience here, but I emptied my whole quiver on a pack of coyotes) you’d be in town adjusting after that instead of hunting.
Buy a dozen and use those 6 for 3D and summer shooting, then adjust closer to fall; or sell them in the classifieds?! I shot a bull 4 times in my younger years, so I like a dozen just in case.

Based on my recent success, I could easily just save weight and bring zero arrows. Or even a bow.

I just redid my whole arrow setup. Dozen are hunting only. Other dozen are target. If I break a hunt arrow I pull from target group to always have a dozen ready to roll.

Typically, I buy 2 dozen at a time and build half for the year to shoot, and any that get messed up, I break into the second dozen before the season.

It's been a while, but i always started with 18-24 arrows. I brought 12 to camp and had 6 in my leg quiver when hunting.
The 12 I brought to camp were the best shooing. I used dedicated arrows for practice and always lost a few every year too.
If all I had was 6 and couldn't get anymore I'd either be shooting less before the season, or looking at an alternative arrow if possible.

Does anyone use their best target arrows to go hunting with? Would like to run practice/live split but don't know if unshot ones fly the same without testing them

A dozen hunting arrows seems to be about right to me. Been on several hunts where guys returned to camp with empty quivers.

I would not be comfortable this far away from season or in the season with that number AND the potential difficulty of sourcing shafts. I consider a dozen the minimum for anything beyond an evening hunt. 6 in the quiver and 6 more with broadheads and ready to go at the truck. I typically start the season with 24 built and cased ready to go. 18 for the primary bow follow me around, and 6 stashed with a backup bow.

I wont start with less than 18. I typically build a full set of 24 for whatever bow I have, once that gets low I will re-evaluate and build another set or pick up enough new arrows to bring me back to at least 18. It only takes a couple of arrows slapping together or a poor shot on a target to be down arrows. I prefer not to scramble to build arrows right before season... it causes undue stress.

It depends on where you're at. If you're all dialed in equipment wise, and need minimal practice, 6 arrows is plenty for the year to get a whitetail or two.
I harvest 1-2 whitetails every year, have a 3 arrow quiver and never needed the third arrow, the second arrow has only been used a few times, one of them netted a second deer at the same sitting.
If you plan on a lot of practicing, and shoot the series at the same spot, it won't be long before they get damaged from clanking into each other.

My quiver holds five, and I keep an extra in the truck.

A few years ago I shot a bull with an arrow, then used that same arrow the next year on my bull moose, and then used it again a month later on my ram.

I run 24 arrows year round. Some get shot, some don't, but I try my best to rotate through them. I shoot groups of 3-4 during the early to mid summer and then singles all of August. I haven't seen enough variation between arrow flights for me to feel like I have to shoot all 24 arrows and find the ones that fly the straightest.

For hunting, I take 4 with BHs into elk woods, with 3-4 more at camp with extra broadheads. For deer, it's the ones in the quiver (generally 3).

I usually make a fresh dozen every 2 seasons, but depending on wanting to change things I might make more. I always have a dozen give or take a few ready to go though.

I buy 2 dozen at a time. I personally shoot Victory RIPS. I buy a dozen .006 shafts for 3D and practice and a dozen .001 shafts for broadheads and hunting. I can then just buy the .006 as needed for 3D and only shoot the .001 ones at animals.

We have some preppers around here! I have gone through seasons with 6 total. I shoot a lot of 3D with my trad bows and a dozen arrows lasts well over a year, including hunting season. Ideally I build 6 for broadheads, and the other 6 are my target arrows. Compounds put a lot more energy into a system though. Arrows are more likely to break from general wear and tear without missing targets.

I once shot a single arrow through an entire TAC event (6 full courses). I’ve also emptied a quiver on a single deer.

If I were you I would have a spare dozen.
