What's the future for Mystery Ranch?

Well, there are no more hiking/backpacking packs on the Mystery Ranch website. The hunting lineup is still there, but the things I've read indicate that MR is going to be solely doing fire/military stuff in the future.

Does anyone know if the civilian lines are getting phased out completely or if they're simply going to be rebranded as Yeti products? I'm especially curious about the hunting packs.

My take,
MR money makers are military, forest fire fighting and hunting.
I don't think I personally have seen and anyone with an MR hiking/backpacking pack.

Yeti will Yeti MR that's been a well-known and respected line sooner than later.

MR EDC and regular packs were incredibly popular in the Asian market, so much so they had exclusive models in those regions.

I can’t express the amount of MR edc packs I saw when in Japan. Funny enough, one of the biggest draws was when they were made in the US.

I’ll be honest, I think their design language and ideas are just not good anymore. They have the trizip, which I would argue is the best opening a 2-4K ci backpack can have, and they do the same shit with it over and over again. They’ve refused to remake several classic packs, including the bighorn, which was probably the most popular internal frame pack they’ve ever made.

The bigger an entity gets, and the greater the equity opportunity and “investment” the farther a company like that gets from where it started.

That would explain why all of the MR packs were 40% off at my local store the other day. Seemed like they trying to liquidate them.

Have an older MR Scree daypack. It probably has 100+ day hikes and 8 or 10 overnighters on it? Great hiking pack-though I’m not too sold on MRs hunting packs these days.

I'm a pretty big fan of Mystery Ranch designs, both the old ones and the newer ones. Unlike others, I never really noticed a decline in quality. I don't care too much if the Mystery Ranch branding is replaced with a Yeti logo. But I do think it would be a huge shame to lose some great packs (and presumably warranty support).

Trizip and the adjustable futura yoke system are the best designs for packs 2500ci and below. After that can’t say much for them as they have not innovated a new design in some time.
