What’s the fastest you’ve driven?

I can remember back in 1981, I was 16 and the lake had froze up really smooth. We tied a Rope behind my buddies truck. 70 mph is very fast on a pair of skates.

Pulled over in Anaconda, MT after hitting 130 in my VW GTI on my way home from Bozeman freshman year. God Bless Montana, $45 ticket, cash out the window to the Anaconda Courthouse.

May or may not have hit the governor in the Raptor on a long-distance visibility two-track running to town when camp ran out of beer midway through a hunt...

Fastest in a car on a public roadway was 156 in a Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera. That was top speed but the car was rock solid, I wish it had a higher top end.

Fastest on a closed race track was 128 in a Ferrari F430 Scuderia on 800 yard straightaway of a 1.3 mile 9 turn road course. That was a bit hairy as the end of the straight was a 90 degree left-hand turn. The car had a lot more in it, the track didn’t.

The fastest on water was approximately 80-85. I was slalom skiing behind a jet boat with a top end of 78 and fell crossing the wake. They said I skipped across the water like a thrown rock. Broke all the buckles on my life jacket, knocked the wind out of me and was pissing blood from bruised kidneys. Never water skiied that fast ever again.

However, by far the dumbest fastest was in a Daewoo Leganza in Korea. No clue of the year. I never checked the oil or tires or anything. Neither did anyone else, for the life of that car, as far as I know. It was a little tin lunch box of a car. I drove that thing everywhere at 180kph, which was the top of the speedo. On the shoulder, in traffic, emergency lanes, wrong side of the road. If that car fit, it became the passing lane at 180kph. I did the math once and it was 118mph. It kinda freaked me out to be hurtling beside standstill traffic on the shoulder at 118mph. So I stuffed that thought deep down in a hole and kept the pedal down. I survived a year and a half doing that, and it was incredibly stupid. And it did not build goodwill with our allies…
I’ve read through a lot of these posts and this one is my favorite.

152 if memory serves me right in a college roommate’s Mitsubishi 3k. He roasted a few engines driving back home at 140+

Oh boy... yall gonna think I'm lying...

97 in a 97' ford f350 diesel, 4x4 high boy coasting down a hill cause Guinness book of records was 104, and I was too chicken to try it without breaks or steering

128 in a Nissan sentra sel @ 19
110 in a yahama xs1100 that was 30 some years old

100+ in everything in owned that could

Icing on the cake, 107 in an international eagle semi with a load of sand behind. Had to follow a crazy port o rican that knew where we had to go, so hammer down and let that Cummins eat!

These days I try to abide by the speed limits (generally) & have a daughter without a sense of fear... and before long she will be able to drive.

Just over 130 for some good stretches in a Sheriffs Office Dodge Charger during a pursuit through traffic on I-95 in South Florida. Seat belt actually came on for that one.

about 145 on a CBR 600RR.

At normal speed limits, the pic below would be about a 6 hour drive. I don't recall how long it actually took, but each orange dot is a high speed warning of 100+ mph and there were 162 of those dots.
