What’s the fastest you’ve driven?

Do you guys think if it goes wrong at such high speed that the human mind can proceed the thought of “ this is bad, I’m gonna die !?”

Or do you think the mind glitches and it’s over ?
Maybe. Having crashed at 50 ish, I had the thought, this is going to hurt while in the air before landing. I have also crashed at 70 and just remember hitting the ground and then being 100 yards down the track. Also have been sliding on pavement and gone, this is getting hot, better move a little. So maybe yes, maybe not.

Worked at GM all thru college. Secretaries that took care of the pool cars were all very nice to me and hooked me up with nice rides whenever I needed to go somewhere. Took a late 80s Firebird Formula 350 on a lonesome Michigan highway. Speedometer went to 150 and kept going all the way past and back to zero. I don’t know how fast it was exactly but the car started to feel very “light”. Glad I got that out of my system without incident!

@northernalpine my oldest was at Eloy this past new years week competing in the collegiate championships. I never jumped but have hauled hundreds of you when I was building hours. They used the Huey for 1 of 4 accuracy jumps. That made his week!
That’s awesome, Eloy is a pretty incredible spot with a cool subculture. Helo jumps are a whole different kind of falling for that first ~5 seconds, it took me a while before I figured it out and stopped doing the “flailing cat.” To this day I’ll still take a fixed wing platform with a rear ramp any day of the week! Crazy what people are doing in the sky these days: one of my old teammates sent me a video of his kids (17, 20) doing an inverted, synchronized, rotating dance thing with 6 others. Between that, the proximity flying, and some of the “mega” group jumps, I’m impressed half the time and shaking my head the other 🤣

Mid 180's on my GSXR 1000 when I was 16. Got grounded for an unrelated reason after, parents took my phone, found the video my buddy took of me flying by. Dad whooped my ass so bad I haven't owned anything besides a dirtbike in 14 years. Glad they got rid of that thing.

Some memorable ones in an uncontrolled (not a track) for me:
MB S600 was over 180 mph before that was enough on a freeway, that car had the electronic limiter removed and I'm not sure why.
Nissan pickup 4 cylinder was over 120 mph (going down grade with a good following wind)
In high school we had a friends moms rusty rattle trap K car over 70 mph and it felt like that car might break apart.
Several motorcycles over 130 mph, at some point around 100mph it just doesn't matter on a bike, you crash and you'll probably die.
US Naval warship somewhere over 40 knots, the actual speed was classified.

112 mph on a snowmobile, 125 mph driving a turbo charged chevy cobalt, and 140+ mph as a passenger a few times (Saleen mustang and Hellcat.)

On my bike, 194.162 through the speed traps at a land speed race up to Loring Air Force Base. After a week of trying to hit 200 that was the best I could do. Traction is a bit of an issue up around there.
