What’s the fastest you’ve driven?

I think I hit 40mph in Grandpas International down the big pasture hill when I was 12. I missed a gear and we went for a ride in neutral. Way more exciting than any of the 120+ mph stories down gravel roads I have.

How I stayed in that seat is beyond me.

Car -05 Mercedes E500. (160mph) I miss that car lol. Young and dumb crashed trying to go over 100 on a on-ramp at night while it was raining 🤦🏽‍♂️

Truck - 02 Toyota tundra (105mph)

Back in the 80's my buddy and I drove a guy's Shelby Cobra. I can't even remember what that thing topped out at, but I'm pretty sure we hit it.

In the early 90's I was driving from Monterey to San Diego. I came upon an accident on the 101. There was an engine block laying in the middle of the road, and 6 body bags on the side of the road. There were also 12 CHP cars at the scene. When I got past it all I thought "shoot, there's not another highway patrolman for miles". I pushed it too far, even into another county. I was doing 105 in my '89 Toyota 4x4 when I got pulled over. I saw him coming from a long ways back, so pulled over under an overpass. He actually blew past me and had to back up.......a Super Trooper moment.

In 2016 while driving in AZ on one of the 2-lane roads in my 2001 F-350 7.3L, I was behind a combination of 9 semi's and RV's along with 4 or 5 cars between them and me. We were all going under the speed limit for awhile. No one in the cars was passing even when they had a chance. So when I saw my chance I floored it. I'm not sure where the governor kicked in, but it was somewhere between 100-110. I got around every one of them in short order. Then never saw another vehicle in front of me for miles. That truck gets up to 100 really quickly from 65-75mph, and is really smooth at 95+.

2000 Maxima - 135mph with plenty of pedal left. The speedo goes to 160. That was just a couple years ago.

In the 80's I drove a buddy's Audi with the cruise set at 110 most of the way from CO to South Padre Island, TX for Spring Break. That one was REALLY stupid.

Only about 160 on a gsxr1100. 150 on the slow bike at Daytona in the rain. Around 150 in a mustang. Honestly after racing, speed isn’t that scary.

Now the quickest car was a 700 ish hp firebird. Actually pretty respectable for a car and it was the slow one in the shop. Turned out the it had a bad coil and only ran on 7 cylinders. Neighbor kid who works there has an 850 hp ls swapped 350z, fastest car in the shop was a 1050 at the ground vette. Went 220 in a standing mile.

my high school Nova would do 0-140 in a quarter mile.

it would do 140-0 in ½ mile.

kids now will never know the thrill of V-8 power and drum brakes!
😆
Do you guys think if it goes wrong at such high speed that the human mind can proceed the thought of “ this is bad, I’m gonna die !?”

Or do you think the mind glitches and it’s over ?
I had a few instant(ces) where I was having a debate in my head weather I was going to die or just wind up in the hospital...
coincidentally, I didn't die, lessons were learned and things were sold...

I got mom's minivan going over 100 driving past Mormon lake while my buddies were mooning everybody we passed from the back seats. Someone flashed their headlights at me so I slowed back down to 55 and we came upon a sheriff parked on the side of the road a mile later. As you can see, we were pretty cool back then

Most of us can’t remember yesterday or our kids birthday!…but what’s the fastest you’ve drove? EASY
2000 Chevy Silverado ext cab pewter in color with the 5.3 governed at around 97ish, Speedo went to 100. Back in 03 around February 5th at 3:15 pm I got it up to at least 115mph, according to the state troopers radar that he showed me back at his car. 🤦‍♂️(Reprogrammed it with some hypertech programmer I bought off eBay like a smart kid does)

135 in a 2007 V6 Honda Accord. I had a 1977 CJ5 V8 when I was in high school. The speedometer only went to 85 if I remember correctly. One time on the turnpike I averaged 120 going two exits. I figured it out based on the time on my ticket for the toll booth. I have no idea how I didn't die driving like that with 33's and a lift.

Grandpa had a Challenger and I wanted to see what it’d do, only got to 115 before I got caught in traffic, but it did it in short time.

Had an ‘05 Focus that I got to 105. A couple hundred miles later I was driving down a main road in town and one of the back wheels came off and left me stranded for a bit.

My wife just bought a new Expedition and the dash is all a TV screen. I asked her, "How do you know the top speed if it doesn't have a gauge?"

Mid 150s every lap at Summit Point on my old R6s. I think I hit 160 a couple times.

Jet, ~1500 mph.
