Back in the 80's my buddy and I drove a guy's Shelby Cobra. I can't even remember what that thing topped out at, but I'm pretty sure we hit it.
In the early 90's I was driving from Monterey to San Diego. I came upon an accident on the 101. There was an engine block laying in the middle of the road, and 6 body bags on the side of the road. There were also 12 CHP cars at the scene. When I got past it all I thought "shoot, there's not another highway patrolman for miles". I pushed it too far, even into another county. I was doing 105 in my '89 Toyota 4x4 when I got pulled over. I saw him coming from a long ways back, so pulled over under an overpass. He actually blew past me and had to back up.......a Super Trooper moment.
In 2016 while driving in AZ on one of the 2-lane roads in my 2001 F-350 7.3L, I was behind a combination of 9 semi's and RV's along with 4 or 5 cars between them and me. We were all going under the speed limit for awhile. No one in the cars was passing even when they had a chance. So when I saw my chance I floored it. I'm not sure where the governor kicked in, but it was somewhere between 100-110. I got around every one of them in short order. Then never saw another vehicle in front of me for miles. That truck gets up to 100 really quickly from 65-75mph, and is really smooth at 95+.
2000 Maxima - 135mph with plenty of pedal left. The speedo goes to 160. That was just a couple years ago.
In the 80's I drove a buddy's Audi with the cruise set at 110 most of the way from CO to South Padre Island, TX for Spring Break. That one was REALLY stupid.
