What’s the coolest thing you found in the back country

Probably my favorite from the past decade was exploring a new drainage just below tree line. I knew there was a old wagon trail and a decaying fallen in cabin at the base of the drainage. However after hiking to tree line I traversed the ridge I found an old mine that still had old powder kegs from the 1800’s decaying amongst other equipment. Turns out the whole hillside was full of a crazy number of mines. I’m still meaning to get up there to and explore more.

Was there still visible powder in the kegs?

No powder. The kegs were just jumbled piles of half rotten staves and steel rings. They were all dumped at the mouth of the mine like a trash pile. One day I’ll go back and see if I can “safely” get a little ways in and see what I can find.
