What's everybody shooting (and paying) for strings?

I'm looking for a new set for a Hoyt VTM I got over the winter. The last time I bought a string set I bought 3, so it was like 6-8 yrs ago. I've used Vapor trail, Catfish, 60x in the past, but some of them are getting a little rich for my blood. What's everyone use these days?

Pay the money and get a bloodline set of strings from and of the reputable dealers. I feel the ability to withstand abrasions is worth it.

Dominant Strands

Their Predator Series is made with Bloodline (Rev 99) for $150 and their Double Helix series is made with BCY 425x for $130.

I've shot them for the past couple of years with zero problems. Small shop with very good turnaround times and excellent communication.

Straight 6 in Bozeman usually does a special on GAS strings in April. I can’t remember exact pricing but it’s a good deal. I’ve tried a lot and GAS and Rogue have been solid.

To answer your first question, JBK - they're exceptional. As to your second question, my last set a few months ago I paid $145 plus $9 shipping.

I've tried about 5 makers, so far the only ones I can recommend are gas. Have a set of jbks on hand now, but it's looking like they'll get installed next year.

JBK is a good dude. Took care of an issue for me when he didn’t need too. High quality strings.

I've tried a bunch of different string makers. I got tired of having to twist or untwist all the time after putting them on. ABB are the only ones that go on and perfectly match my marks every time. They're worth it for me. I picked up a set of Platinums for $50 from them last year for my Mathews Traverse when they had them deep discounted.

I've had great experiences with Catfish Customs VEC99 sets. Both of my bows are set up with them. I haven't found a reason to change.

Gas, threadz, catfish, JBK, and John’s Customs have all done right by me over the years. The price is the price.

I’d really push you towards 452x over the waxless stuff. I know, the colors are more vibrant and it never fuzzes. The dirty little secret no one tells you is that the material is SLICK. I tried it on a few different bows, and I was never happy with anyway I tied a peep in, including the hamskea/gillingham method.

I have success with a constrictor around the peep and a bunch of above/below half hitches on each bundle.

That’s the same as the hamskea/gillingham method.

It works phenomenally on 452x. The waxless stuff is just so darn slick, you can still get a peep to slide. My buddy missed a 330” bull because his peep slid about half an inch on a hunt a few years ago. His strings were really pretty though lol.

I get why builders like the waxless stuff. It’s much less mess on their end. On the shooter’s end, I only see downsides on the waxless side.

I will second to avoid the wax less stuff because it is slick and that seems to cause several peoblems. I prefer x99 or 452x. I make my own, but I have had several sets of winners choice and some catfish and the two best strings I have ever had by someone else were the factory sets on my rx8u and conceptx. Maybe get some from Hoyt. That would honestly be my recommendation based on the little experience I have with different "custom" strinproblems. Good luck.
