What would you do? Stolen Swarovski spotter

to clarify, it was stolen along with my pickup truck. Truck was recovered 1 month after the theft (likely totaled - waiting to hear back from insurance). I have filed an insurance claim for the spotter. It bugs me that the LE don’t seem to investigate/care at all. Adding everything up it’s a crime of $50k+…

Exactly. Most people have an inflated view of LE concern. Outside of shootouts and wrecking fleeing cars, 90% could care less. Well, I forgot they like DV calls so they can add another vulnerable female to their list of potential "scores".

It is important to report any crime or theft as it feeds into data etc but yeah its very difficult type of crime to deal with. A truck should in theory be easier but imagine itd be in a chop shop.

As I said if you have Facebook details see if they've got any other listing's. You were smart not to mention anything relating to theft , hopefully cops didnt spook them.

Unfortunately there is a time element in these kind of cases. Getting the tip/call for service handled on a patrol level and then assigned to a detective takes time. Usually by then the product has been sold. Also gathering the resources/personnel necessary to do an undercover buy, while possible, can be challenging to coordinate given how fast the product changes hands. The first step is making sure the swaro is reported stolen with whatever jurisdiction it was stolen in. The detective should be able to work the case backwards and identify the person who sold your swaro by writing search warrants for his Facebook account. That can lead to search warrants on suspects house and/or cell phone. After all is said and done they might be able to figure out who he sold it to (most likely an unknowing buyer) and recover your property. Long story short is it’s definitely a process that can take a few weeks all said and done.
