For what you are looking at amd what you have listed as choices, I would pick the 270 Wby 1000 times out of 1000. I would not hesitate to use that on anything in NA although, the 300 would be a no brained for best all around, that has been well proven over the last 70 some years.

The only appeal to the 300wby is if you don't reload it has far and away the most factory ammo options, norma, wby, federal, Remington, sierra, hsm, hornady et el all load 300 wby. Recoil out of a brake isn't bad at all but muzzle blast is pretty ferocious so brake selection needs to be considered

270 Wby has 8 offerings at MidwayUSA: Wby (5), Federal, Nosler, Norma

300 Wby has 18 offerings at MidwayUSA: Wby (6), Nosler (4), Hornady (2), Norma (2), Barnes, HSM, Remington, Swift

Both the 270 and 300 Wby are 1:10 twist barrels at 26"

Be wary of nosler loaded wby ammo- used to be pretty good stuff then around around the time their proprietary cartridges launched the Weatherby rounds became pretty anemic- not saying they intentionally down loaded it but most offerings mysteriously lost 200 fps

If I were only going to own 1 rifle it would be a tough choice between a 340 and 300 wby. Probably would go with the 300 because of ammo availability. There is nothing on this continent that cannot be taken with a 300 wby.

I have a number rifles including several Weatherbys, for the last 40 years I seem to rely on the 270 WM. It has done everything that I have needed, from Elk, Caribou, Moose, Mule deer and Whitetail.

unless you know you won’t mind additional recoil of the 300. I have owned the 257, 270. 7mm and 300. The 257 recoils about the same as the 270 but doesn’t have the versatility. The 7Wby makes the most sense but seems like the odd duck. The 300 is obviously a great choice but recoils significantly more than the others….

Thanks for all the helpful replies! I ended up going with the 270. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Woah! That's very nice of you. I may reach out in a couple of months - I just started reloading 12 gauge (literally 3 days ago) and I'd like to get that down first.

Very cool! If you value nostalgia at all, and absolutely killer ballistics, in a one and done package - 7mm Roy! The one that started em all.
