What weapon carrier do you use?

All depends on type of rifle carried. My bet would be that considering OP has a 24" barreled rifle with a suppressor and bipod, it's not a lightweight offhand rifle. I carry my heavy bolt action on my pack, but my AR and shotgun are hand-carried. It all depends on what kind of hunting you're doing.

I actually think he had a good point. I have always wondered why people are tramping around the woods with their rifles attached to their packs. I am sure there are tons of animals that have gotten away due to people fumbling to get their rifle out of some kind of carrying system. I usually just carry my rifle in my hands and have killed more than a few animals that have jumped up close to me where I only had a split second to shoot.

It's not that i disagree it's just that was not the question at all. I personally have packed a rifle and bow that way for years. And like many i have killed animals that just appear. I'm just looking into a new way to carry it on my pack.

Here's a question. What about carrying a rifle and a bow? I'm heading to Wyoming for archery elk, but have a mule deer tag as well where rifle is fair game. Have a 6lb loaded Kimber Adirondack that I want to bring attached to my pack, while I carry the bow or use the gun bearer for bow.

Options are a Mountain Warrior, Mountain Rambler, EMRII. I will need to pack in camp about 3 miles, but day hunting from there. I think I'm leaning towards the Rambler but I haven't hauled a rifle around with it yet. Would you rather have it in a scabbard muzzle down in a Rambler, or muzzle up on the side of a Mountain Warrior?

My other day hunt gear will include trekking poles, spotter, tripod plus all the normal stuff.

Don't type just to type! If you don't have anything to add, move on.

Please show me where I didn't DIRECTLY answer his question as succinctly as possible. If anything, your post was less relevant to the OP.

Now had he said that he'd be carrying a 15lb rifle into the woods, that would have made all the difference in the world with replies on all fronts, but that falls on him. If you leave info out you probably won't get the best answers.

I just find it amazing where our society has come to and they always need a new-fangled way to do things. There is nothing new under the sun.......well, except for this new thing of everyone getting so offended with anything and everything these days. People strung way too tight these days.

5miles, I can tell you in reading many of your posts over the years, you often come across as a smart-ass. We've let it slide, but it's getting old, real old. If we get one more complaint on the pile about you, Ryan's got the hammer ready, and I won't miss you either.

On an up note, part of why we've let it slide is because sometimes you're contributions and insights are really good, if you can leave the sarcasm and "I'm-a-little-smarter-than-you attitude" out.

But if it comes down to choosing guys who might not phrase a question to your liking and you, we'll chose those guys. All of us are here to learn.

Ball's in your court.

Robby pretty much summed it all up. But to your post above.

Truthfully, I don't read your posts. But, for some reason your name keeps showing up in my PM box. So, I have to waste my time looking at your posts.

I'm pretty sure, captain obvious the OP knew about the options you stated already.

Please don't turn Rokslide into a "safe speech zone!"

5MB's posts can certainly be annoying at times but then again sometimes "man up" is a totally legitimate response to a post. And I find it much more annoying that a) somebody would be offended by his posts and b) would actually take the time to PM a moderator to whine about it.

As for the OP I'll be using the Kifaru gun bearer for the first time this weekend as I hike in to a spot to do some scouting and hopefully shoot a few grouse. We'll see how well it works with a shotgun especially since there is a ton of downed timber that I'll be scooting up, over and around while wearing my pack. I'll report back on how well it works.

What he said. We need something to laugh at from time to time since Littlebuff is gone :)

Please do, i'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on it.

Broodbuster, gelton, I disagree. If someone comes across as offensive to multiple people over a long period of time, we get sick of screwing with it. Doesn't really come into the equation if it's safe speech, unsafe, what ever. It's a time suck for the mods and we don't have time for time sucks. And Littlebuff is gone for the same reason and Rokslide is a better place for it. If you need that kind of entertainment, there's a whole bunch of websites out there that will welcome you.

I have a gun bearer I'm not using this year (only archery tags). I have both types the universal and molley tabs if you'd like to try it out pm me but I'm going to need it back for late season

Awesome, pm coming your way.

I have used a gun bearer for my rifle during high mountain buck and even turkey hunting with a shotgun. The only time it got in my way is when climbing a steep grade, so I just remove and carry by hand. It keeps the hands free for walking sticks and rifle is still ready to go.

Also remember when ducking under something or any other moves and your rifle could be pointing at your hunting partner in front of you, so be safe. Your guns safety button/lever is not 100%, its all about you and how you handle your rifle.

Defiantly no plans of walking around loaded. If loading a shell costs me an animal it wasn't meant to be.

This is another option that works pretty well. Medium pocket to hold the butt and just use the compression straps for the forearm.

Kinda hard to see exactly, but the Nomad also works well with the gun bearer. This is a great way to carry heavy/long rifles as long as you don't need to get them out really fast.

Great pics! What tarp is that?
