A few months ago I picked up a Tikka T3x 338 win mag. I topped it with talley ultra light mounts and a Meopta optika 5 2-10x42. The recoil screwed up the scope inside and I had to send it back and they credited me my money. So I didn't have to send it in for warranty. I then just bought a Nightforce SHV 3-10x42. Now that it's a 30mm tube i need to buy new mounts.

What would you all recommend. I live in canada, so it could be difficult to get some of your recommendations

I personally use the UM ones. I like them a lot on sale.

Hawkins has some direct mount, one piece rings similar in concept to the Talleys. The are spendy and have elevation built in, but they are an option.

I prefer a one piece direct mount, especially for heavy recoiling calibers like the .338. I'd recommend the Exterra Precision one piece ring, it is lightweight (under 4oz) and rock solid.

Has anyone had any experience with the leupold backcountry, mount, they seem to be, it's better built than talleys

I haven’t used them, but I considered them before ultimately going for UM rings. They don’t have recoil pins (as far as I can tell from the instructions and website information).

Since I live in canada, it's very hard to get some items. I wanted to go UN lows but they are back ordered and the place to get em from in.Canada doesn't have any, and they can't tell me how long.So I just ordered these two items. They should also be bulletproof

From online photos, thr Leupys mount with tiny screws to the threaded holes in the action, which appears much less robust than the larger dovetail clamp screws (that can be torque 45+ in/lb) and recoil pin that UM uses, or even the Sportsmatch with slightly lower torque dovetail screws and rolled recoil pin. DMZ game reaper seems like the sturdiest option if you want direct mount using the threaded action holes.

That said, leupold Backcountry rings are the best direct mount option ive found for X-Bolt and they're nicely machined 7075 aluminum which is stronger than 6061 by an appreciable margin. I'd stay far away from Talleys which are 6061 and to my eye have less precise machining.

Sportsmatch rings work.

I personally use NF UL medium rings on an Area419 rail bonded to the action with JB weld.

Any rail with a recoil pin works.
