I am new to using radios for in file communication on stalks, either hunted alone or hand signals but like the idea of a little better advantage. Thee are many radio choices, what are the key features to look for and any models that you sort and why?

Don't use radios for communication whilst stalking, but have used them to check in with hunting partners who are late getting back to camp etc. Those little Motorola Talkabouts work fine for that purpose.

Not supposed to use electronics to aid in killing game.

A LEO or anyone else with a radio that has scanner capabilities can hear everything you say. My uncle and cousin had found some deer and were discussing over radio on a "private" channel when some guys drive up and start asking about the deer my cousin had shot - we didn't shoot no deer... Oh yeah you did - we can hear everything you say. They now have to share that hunt area.

Best just to talk about lunch and how you aren't seeing anything. ;)

I use the titan tr4x. I used to use the ones you can find at sporting good stores but always found that the sound quality was poor, distance was short, and any kind of tree cover made them useless.

The Titan tr4x is what I would describe as a commercial grade product. Something you would find being used on a construction site or other business. Good range, great sound quality, and durable. Expensive but worth it in my book if you use that type of communication method

Find out what your hunting buddies are using. Most are gmrs radios, but it never hurts to align. The people I hunt with use garmin rhino units, but they only use the radio feature. I can use my cheap Motorola radio to communicate.

I have been playing with gotenna which is text via gmrs. Jury is still out, but if you had a group of people needing to get setup it would be an option. Put a unit at a peak and let it repeat. Base tablet at camp and each person can have a gotenna paired with their phone.
