What kind of super glue?

This might be a dumb question but here it goes....
What kind of super glue are you guys taking in your first aid kits? Is there a type specific for wounds?

Steristrips can be used as an alternative to stitches if the wound isn't gushing, or too deep.

I got vet med glue off of amazon. Haven't had to use it yet though.

There is a dedicated glue for gluing you back together, it's called dermabond.
If it's any different to my favorite super glue (loctite 406) I dont know.

Yes, I believe you are correct. There are several types I think... I know 3m and another company make them, but Cant specifically recall their names at the moment.

You can use either, I asked my mom about it (a Nurse practitioner in a busy ED) and she said the difference is in the chemicals used to make the general super glue may not be the best for you (but if you need it and dont have it, either will prevent you from further injury).

I use the duro brand and it works great and I have also used the Krazy glue with good results. The gorilla brand "super glue" is crap.

If you are taking it for the first aid kit then you should get an actual tissue adhesive. Chemically they are a little different and regular super glue is toxic to tissue. It also produces enough heat when it cures to damage the tissues it is touching.

If you are going to use it you need to stop the bleeding first. The wound has to be dry or it won't work. You can buy Dermabond on ebay pretty cheap.

Let it dry a bit before the bandage goes on. Learned that the hard way when I had to take the bandage off at the doctor's the following day.

Surehold "plastic surgery"

Amazon or ebay.

Was going to get some medical grade from my dog's vet (it's same as people super glue) but he said don't bother for this purpose and just get a quality store brand. Surehold works well for me.

super cheap but not a closure. Looks like its used to help adhere steri strips, which I also use.

Benzoin compound tincture is also a must for anything you want to adhere to the skin. I always use it with Leukotape on my feet for blister/hotspot prevention. I tape up my heels in the danger zone at the start of a trip. If I use Benzoin, I can get a week plus out of my Leukotape application.

Krazy glue…. comes in a pack of 5 mini single use tubes. I just keep a couple of them in my kit. Zero weight and space penalty... and no wasted product after.

Vets can get it for you. It is different than super glue, the reaction with the air creates less heat. It works well on head wounds or other areas that are not active. On horses and myself it never holds up to much movement. I've been told to use it anyways, even if it just keeps a small gapping wound from getting crap in it
