What is wrong with ruger rifles

I was in your same seat a few months ago.

I can’t speak to Ruger - I went with a tikka 6.5 Creedmoor suppressed which I had to modify and I am glad I did.

I’ve never had a better shooting rifle - with factory hornady eld x 143 grain my sons can consistently hit pie plates at 400 yards off of a tripod.

I’m sure the ruger would do the same in a 6.5 creed.

Even with a suppressor, the recoil is not unmanageable in a 6.5 creed but I think with a PRC it might be just a little too much at that age.

My son is 9 and is no stranger to getting his a** kicked between wrestling and a little sister who is as mean as a copperhead snake lol.

The BC is so high on that Creedmoor that accuracy is easy to come by if you work at it.

PM me if you want some more details.

What 6cm tikka has a 12”-13” lop, threaded 20” barrel and sub $850? I’ve researched but not sure I’ve exhausted that research yet. If there is one out there, I’d be willing to go up $200+ over the ruger, but I’m struggling to find it.
I haven’t done rifle research in 10 years though, so I feel undereducated all over again.

And if I was building this for myself, I’d start with a tikka and play but for two kids, 7 and 10, this just needs to be a low cost factory rifle that’ll take a beating when walking mistakes happen. My boy lives faceplanted in the dirt or sidewalk. Kids….

None. The RAP is your rifle for your listed requirements. Yes, the Tikka is a nicer rifle, but the Ruger is accurate and checks your boxes.

Euro optic has 6.5prc tikkas for $600. Round up a compact stock or cut down somebodys takeoff.

Then chop an thread.

No 6cm but plenty of fast twist 243's out there. That isnt ever a bad choice either

Yeah and by the time you do that, it's turned into an $850 rifle (more if you have to pay shipping to a smith and back) with a really short length of pull, that whether people admit it or not, screws up resale value. Other than the word Tikka on the action, it's not really gaining anything.

Take off stocks are about $50 sometimes even free. I sure wouldnt pay somebody to cut down one of those, but you do you.

No idea what a barrel thread costs. Cant see how it'd be that much though

Worried about resale? Who cares? Pretty sure he bought it for him and his kids, not the next guy..

If you've ever gotten tired of owning things that need warranty work, you'll understand why people don't buy the Ruger.
I promise that for every Tikka sold, Ruger sells 10 Americans. At least.

On another note to completely derail the thread.... that's why I don't buy Leupold. LOL

yeah resale isn't a problem until it's a problem. Around here, it's a minimum of $150 just to get a barrel threaded. Cutting and crowning will add a little to it, I'm sure.

What's wrong with my Ruger Gen 2? Uhh...too accurate, too handy, too much fun? I have one that my kid shoots and it's absolutely perfect for us.

It’s also going to take a lot of convincing for me to buy a 6.5cm. Is the 6cm, with either a 88gr stone hammer or 90gr hht a deer/antelope killer out to 500 with a 20” barrel?
You're a bigger is better guy, but jumping over the 6.5cm to go down to 6cm? Just don't like the stigma of the 6.5?
I don't think the 6cm would be bad either, there is a few videos of the exo guys in AK shooting moose and caribou with the 6cm.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the Ruger is necessarily a better rifle. Just for the OP, it's the easy button in this situation. And if they decide they hate it, a 6.5PRC with a full length stock is going to sell faster than one cut and chopped for a kid.

Kinda why I said to snag a takeoff.

Still, interesting that the guys looking at buying a gun, and here you are fussing about selling it lol.
