What is with hunting companies referring to themselves as athletes?

It’s only human nature for people who aren’t willing to put in the work to sh*t all over the people that are. This thread is just another example of it.

I work very hard thank you very much, I dont think anyone is using this to bash people who work hard. I know of one sheep guide here in Colorado whos got a beer gut with the build of a garden gnome. Im pretty sure he could run circles around 99.9% of people on this forum, myself included. If you called him an athlete hed probably give you a hearty gnomish laugh. Hard work does not equal success or get you a participation ribbon. Well, in some places it might :)

This is funny.
My opinion of athletes is fairly low in general and I would never want to be classified as such. In fact the whole hunters as athletes makes me laugh and wonder what one would classify the men and women that work in the woods everyday as? Classifying them as athletes would be a shame as from what I have seen of hunter/wilderness athletes they don't hold a candle to anyone that actually works in the woods. You hunter/athletes can call yourselfs whatever you like but thoughts of us in the know understand it's just another label to draw attention to oneself, it might impress the girls and the general public but it doesn't impress us crusty old farts that have been there and done that without the need for fan fair and social media look at me posts.

Didn't read all the posts, but many of us try and maintain a certain level of fitness in order to pursue our adventures... athletic if you will. I have taken guys out half my age and they get their arses kicked just getting to a hunting spot, much less actually hunting. Some folks take it to the max... and yes, I would label them athletes, moreso then shotput guys or the folks that chase that granite ball with brooms in the olympics... and they are considered oympic atheletes! :)

It's just a label, it helps provide another outlet for both marketing and personal pursuits. Let's wrap this one up and move on...

Lots of haters out there. Who gives a schit if they call themselves ventriloquists? Crossfit? Those boobs couldn't hunt to save their lives....

I prefer “Forest Ninja”...

If it gets folks out of the house and in the woods enjoying life, I say they can call themselves whatever they want.

Naw, keep it going until the members decide to let it die. Remember without all these convos this would just be a url and no one would advertise almighty moderator.

Edit: Ah, you are a sitka brand ambassador! That explains alot ;)

I think these conversations make it less likely for anyone to advertise with us.

Most of the talk in this thread is pointless.

So if you dont like it, everyone else's opinions and statements are pointless? You guys are a pompous group arent you? May be getting a little too high off your instagram account followers.

Its a forum about hunting, which I imagine a significant portion is about gear and brands. Negative comments are bound to come out about experiences. For example, I'am about to send a vortex bino in for repair for a 3rd time. It would probably benefit the community for them to be aware. Or, is this site purely for the benefit of your sponsors and any negative commentary about them should be squashed?

Your sponsors deal with the masses everyday, Im pretty sure they know what they are getting into.

This thread has been kept civil, no need for moderators to jump in and start being smartasses.

Note: I have no idea if vortex is a sponsor, using it as an example.

I’m not a mod, I’m the owner. I’m not pompous, I’m a dick.

Now that we have that figured out, your intent for this post and the last was not to have a conversation but to get people arguing, to me that is pointless.
