What is too fast for a fixed blade setup?

I was reading through another post and didnt want to hijack with my questions.

At what FPS do fixed blade heads become squirrelly causing inconsistent flight?

Is there an breaking point where if you are shooting over ___ FPS, a guy should look into an expandable over a fixed head? Or is it simply a tuning issue... where with a well tuned bow you can shoot fixed blades at any speed?

It depends on every set up and shooter's form. I personally like to shoot enough weight to keep my arrows in the 280-290 fps range, but I'm only a 28" draw. I also know several buddies shooting fixed VPA's well north of 300 fps with great flight. I think with today's compact style broadheads, stiffer vanes with heavy helical, and an overall better understand of tuning, speed limit is less of an issue. Just don't go sacrificing weight for speed. That's a sucker's game. A quieter, heavier, slower arrow is way more deadly than a loud, fast and light little toothpick.

I'm at 320 fps with a 390 grain arrow and have zero flight issues using fixed blades. Not the heaviest arrow, not the lightest, just what they came out at.

Like mentioned previously It is going g to come down to each individual set up. Tuning is a huge factor as well as which style of head, arrow, and fletching. I have pushed a couple different styles of heads up to the 330 fps range with field tip accuracy. The shorter compact ferrule heads do much better. Is there a limit to the speed at which these heads may not be stable? There might be but I don't plan to reach that!

Last year I was shooting 315 FPS with a 387 gr arrow out of my MR7 set at 67lbs using fix Blade Terminal T-lock's. No flight issues at all. This year I am shooting 301 FPS with 380 gr arrow same broadhead with my Z7Mag set at 61lbs with great flight.

No such thing as to fast. The right dynamic spine and tune will put you on the money.

I've shot numerous fixed blade heads in the 330-340 range in the past with good results...100gr Shuttle T's have always been money for me no matter what speed I was shooting them at.
