What is the rokslide special muzzleloader?

I’m getting my first muzzleloader and I’m looking at a .45 CVA MRX. I have no interest in getting a custom or anything like that, I’m just looking to strike a nice balance between performance, cost, and reliability. Is the MRX the one? What else should I be looking at?

For me, muzzleloaders are all about convenience in cleaning and loading/unloading. I want a breech I can remove by hand, and I want a ramrod under the barrel so I don't have to store it folded up somewhere. Thompson Center Encore, Triumph, CVA Wolf, Optima, and many, many others check those boxes. You didn't specify, but it sounds like you aren't looking for a long range setup or smokeless or anything like that. Is that correct?

I'm in a 50cal full bore projectile state with open sights required. I have a cva optima and accura both set up the same with a williams front globe (the one setup for fiber optic but I also have an insert card to use fine cross hairs too) and a rear pic/peep rail. That puts the peep all the way back to the end of the barrel (longer sight radius) and the pic rail allows a scope to be put on without touching the open sights if desired (load dev or another state). Both have the blackhorn 209 breach plug which as the name suggests I use with ~100gr (by volume) blackhorn 209. Been using this setup for years with no complaints while working within the limitations of my state's regs.

That’s correct, plan to use blackhorn 209. I have an extra bdc 3-9x40 Huron. I plan to shoot to the last holdover at 8.32 moa, assuming I can shoot consistently at that distance.

The encores are an interesting option I could swap barrels and have a crack barrel primitive weapon as well. I wonder when the new ones will hit the market.

I’ll add…Hornady FTX .452 250gr with Harvester sabot. Buy them separate. Way cheaper than buying “muzzleloader bullets.”

If you want an Encore, you need the pro hunter or Endeavor barrel to get the hand removable breech plug. They aren’t cheap in comparison to other options.

In my opinion, you should grab a CVA Optima and get good mounts and optics, and use BH209 and the bullets above. The Optima trigger is good, and it’s a solid platform.

They say encores early next year. It’s not a cheap option. Probably will run $1k+. I built my ML on an encore pistol. A barrel alone is more than cheap CVA’s.

Seems like too many different rules by state for an RSS muzzleloader.

Here in VA where our whitetail rut is during muzzloader season, the most popular is a CVA Optima v2. Blackhorn 209 powder is super accurate and, mlre importantly to me, nice to not have to clean right away. If going .45, a CVA Scout converted to muzzleloader with a breech plug is great with smokeless or blackhorn 209. Getting 275 grain .45 fury or Pittman bullet moving 2500 to 2700 fps is pretty impressive.

Check to see what is legal for your muzzleloader seasons before buying one.

I found this pretty interesting on performance. Sure, it's just one viewpoint from one manufacturer..

My preferred ML is a 50cal CVA Accura V2.
I like the Bergara barrel, adjustable trigger, pistol stock and ability to mount a scope if I want.

I don’t mind the ramrod under the barrel, I’ve been used to that for over 40 years

Mine slings a 420gr No Excuses bullet pushed by 90gr volume of Pyrodex P.
