My group had great hope of pulling a muzzleloading tag, but we didn't. Still not sure why based on last years tables and draw odds, but anyway it looks like we will be picking up our bows and heading to Colorado this fall. What do you think is the best week to go? I don't really want to be there when the muzzleloading guys are out there...so do you go the week before muzzleloading season or after? Hope to hear from the crew out there. Thanks.

hey Bullshooter if your hunting Elk the Season is in Sept depending on the weather and the moons will indicate when the Elk Rut. We are going to be Bowhunting the second week in Sept. That could be just the start of the Rut or it could be halfway through. All Depends on how your going to hunt and what your going to hunt also.

Whichever one you shoot an elk in!

I think the only week you really want to avoid is the week the muzzleloaders are in the woods but even if you can't - I had to hunt that week last year due to my schedule -- it's not bad either.

Yeah it really isnt, And if you scout your area well you may even use the Muzzy Boys to your advantage. If they are on one side of the valley you can stage your place to hunt on the other side and they may move the elk towards you. You need to know the Elk movement and the area your hunting to make this work though. =-)

The last week, or the ML week. Don't care either way. Actually the ML week can be pretty good because a lot of archers elect to not hunt that time frame. GENERALLY a ML hunter is a rifle hunter who wants to hunt the rut. GENERALLY rifle hunters are less hard-core then archers. I've yet to have a problem getting away from the ML guys.......all comes down to how bad you want it......

I hunted ML last year with a bow and didn't see a hunter past a half mile from the trailhead. Got a good bull 3.5 miles in and the elk there weren't pressured at all.

One problem with muzzy hunters is outfitters may have them in their camps so you might want to make some calls to see if they have any. I bet most camps are less than 2 miles from a road. Makes me wonder why anyone would pay $1200 to get packed into an area I can walk to in less than 30 minutes.

The hard part of the last week is finding the elk, once you do it can be good but it might take a few days to figure out where they all went. And in CO lots of times its private land.

Honestly, any week that you can hunt is the best week. I've done well from Labor Day through the end of the season. I think bigger bulls are easier to get early in the season. The rut can vary greatly, so pick a week and give it your best shot. Quiet bulls doesn't equate to no bulls.
