Just got this fella this morning. Super fat, easy living, Ag Field buck. Ground is pretty soft everywhere. Got to watch him for a hour before the shot and he seemed to walk just fine. Google says Laminitis, wondering if anyone else has been around this for the meat quality.

thanx

Its common in ag areas. Those are the big old bucks that only come out at night and travel 500 yards to water and bed in a day. Good eatin.

Yep, what others have said - easy living. Similar stuff happens to domestic livestock, requiring people to actually trim them in ways their feral or wild counterparts don't need. Wild horses don't need it because it's getting worn off, ranch horses need nippers, etc. It's actually one way you can tell coyote tracks from dogs - you'll almost never see toenail/claw marks in coyote tracks, because they're just constantly being worn, but pet dogs being walked or that get loose generally have them in their tracks.
