What is Federal paying to shill for 7 backcountry?

I think they said its was to reduce case diameter to fit another rd in a mag.
It could also be to reduce bolt thrust with the higher pressure case. This may be one of their strategies to help actions (especially bolt lugs) survive the higher pressure.

That's pure conjecture, but if true, may mean we won't see magnum bolt face peak alloy cases, at least not on current actions.

Edit to add that I could also see some engineering manager at Federal making a call to pilot this technology on a standard bolt face for this reason to increase safety margin, regardless of whether or not the analysis shows that the increased bolt thrust is even a problem.

This guy made his own dies before the Lee were available. He's same guy that made all kinds of cases based off the 277 sig hybrids.

He also made brass cases from 280ai, and they run similar 280ai velocity. I don't hate the 7bc, but they shouldn't have rolled it out until they had figured out reloading the case, because they advertised that being immediately available. BUT HUNTING SEASON was just around the corner........so push it.

I'm all for new tech, hybrid alloys, cool! Case/chamber designs that allow stuff to be ran super hot but allow proper extraction, cool! Federal already redisgned the case dimensions as previous version was causing sticking chambers, we've all saw this videos. I mean of they did this to a 65cm like case, allowed it to gain 200fps, it'd basically make it near or at the 65prc, neck the existing 7bc down to 65, it'd be serious horsepower in a small case. Make a big boy! Hybrid alloy 30 cal case thay holds 90gr capacity, it'd run with saami psi 300rum loads. There will be a time in the next coming years that there will be a direction change in case design and methods. Technology is moving so fast right now, I mean we've been running the same bottle neck brass case system for 120+ years.

I’m picturing a 40mm M203…
I’m imagining a lot of people buying a 16” 7bc want to suppress it.

Problem is true 80kpsi chamber pressure is going to mean 40kpsi muzzle pressure at 16”.
Same problem with short gas system AR15 with port pressure being so high that the bcg were being beat to death. And those were with 55kpsi 556 loads.

I’m thinking a lot of cans are going to get stress tested this way soon.

I know I wouldn’t want to touch off a 16” 7mm magnum anything without a can anymore after my fair share of TBI.

Think you’re right on the stress testing of titanium cans… there’s going to be some baffles getting yeeted by these hybrid cases for damn sure.
