I had an AR10 jam. Luckily it jammed on the shot that put the buck I was shooting at down. It spooked me enough to switch to bolt rifles exclusively.
Here’s a good one. I sometimes hunt with an AR in 308, no issues.

Sometimes, a bolt M70, 30/06. Dropped a small elk with it once, went to chamber a second round…bolt would not close. Elk looked dead, so I fiddled around, tried the next bullet in the mag. Nope, won’t chamber.

Factory Winchester fail safe ammo. Pulled some out of the butt cuff, one chambered. Elk was dead anyway and I had some work to do, so I quit messing with it. Back in camp, it turned out almost half of that factory ammo would not chamber.
Apparently the box of failsafe I had at the range was a different lot and all worked. I had bought a new box of the same for the hunt.

Safety on a Mossberg 500, wouldn't go on safe. Had it fixed by a gun Smith, did the same thing a few years later, never shot it again.
Semi auto Remington chambered in .280. Shot at a whitetail doe and the action locked up, could physically move it. Turned into a massive crap show to get it fixed, got it fixed and traded it in.

2 days before Christmas this past deer season, I had the flu and sick as a dog. 90 minutes before dark, I get stir crazy and grab my rifle. Go out to load old Honda 4trax on trailer that's hooked to my old truck. It won't stay running. Later learned that chipmunks had filled the airbox up with corn. Raised ramp on trailer and took off anyway.
Killed 2 fat old barren does. Walked back out and drove across field as close to the deer as I could get. Struggled to get the does drug to and onto trailer. Turned my phone back on as I started out through the field. Had 11 missed calls and 26 texts from people trying to check on me. As I was returning a call, my dumbass drove straight on into the tallest terrace in the field and high centered the truck. I've been driving through that same field for 22 years and driving that truck 24 years. I would have never thought I'd do something so stupid, but I sure did it and had no choice but to own it. Friend that also happens to work at closest processor came to my rescue. Seeing how pitiful I looked, he also took the deer and cleaned them for me.
Not a rifle quitting on me, but a 4 wheeler and my own brain fart.

Remington 1110 having multiple jams on a Chuckar hunt…

One of the legs on my slik 634 tri pod randomly fell off while I was setting in up to glass on my sheep hunt.

I will never use slik again. The company wouldn’t even warranty it and wanted to charge me 100$ for a new leg!!!!

Rem 7400 that consistently failed to cycle.
Rem 870 wood forearm swelled up around the mag tube from wet and bound the action closed.
Rem 870 rough chamber needed polished or it would jam shut when fired.
Kimber 84 failure to feed, bullets catch on feed ramp.
Cz 455 bolt froze , would not fire (squirrels safe that day)

Sig Kilo2200 rangefinder. I took it out of the box after it sat in a drawer unopened for 1-2 years and the power was on and I could go through the menus but it wouldn't range anything. They replaced it with a Kilo5K for free which has a ballistic calculator in it though so I won in the end.

the kilo 2200bdx was awful. I had 2 quit on me before even getting to the field. Sold the kilo5k without even opening the packaging.

Sig 2200 Gave up the ghost last December in Idaho deer hunting would only range 200 yds.
I have seen my waterfowl buddy blow up a patternmaster, then the next year blow up the barrel with the new patternmaster in it. I stopped using them after that.

My dad's Cooper magazine spring has failed several times on hunts, works well at the range but craps the bed on hunts; we are a slow learning family.

Best one was watching my uncle stomp his Hoochie Mama after it made a screeching noise and spooked bull that was almost in range.

more stuff thats come to mind:

i had a platybottle that wouldn't get tight enough to work in the field, but worked fine in the house before and after the trip. Also had a sawyer squeeze that got too clogged to function, I had to sit on the dirty bag to get any flow through it.

Bergara HMR in 6.5 CM-Trigger failure due to dust. Typical R700 stuff
A-Bolt II - FTF due to light primer strike. Disassembled and cleaned bolt
Howa 1500 - Failure to extract. Multiple reasons, light extractor spring and maybe a rough chamber too. Adding a stiffer extractor spring helped but it still had issues.

I grew up with 7400’s. They worked good until it didn’t on one deer. Had to pull the empty case out by and feed the follow up shot by hand. Hasn’t been fired since.

Leica rangefinder, it was an expensive piece of garbage.

An odd one I had was when I was bear hunting and had chambered a round. Pulled the bolt back and all of a sudden had powder everywhere. Somehow the bullet got lodged in the bore and I had to tap it out with a cleaning rod at home. I still don't know how that one happened since I wasn't into the lands with the other rounds before or after.

Remington 742 - lotsa failures to fire - 30-06. Shot 2 deer with it, switched to bolt gun.
Remington 700 25-06 froze on me in blizzard. Had to work bolt to get round to fire. Got deer.
Mossberg 500 and 835 have had ejector issues - every 2nd or 3rd round - would use pocket knife to clear barrel...
Mossberg 500 - tightened the front nut too much and put a curve into the barrel.
Win 1300 - big time hang fire at skeet range. Never shot that gun again.

Wife's father died and she ended up with all the guns after BiL had messed with them. Had a loaded Mini-30 with safety off... (first thing I did was clear the guns) Glad no-one pulled any triggers...

Not a rifle, but I had a pump action shotgun jam up on me pretty good once while grouse hunting. Had a tiny little piece of a stick get stuck in an easily overlooked spot between the pump and the magazine and couldn't figure it out in the field. Found it pretty quick once I was home.
