People that buy these tags don't worry about being able to afford it or the cost benefit analysis of it. This is play money, vacation money.... Money that they can attempt to spend but in their old age won't approach depleting before they are on to the next life.

Good for them, I'm not sure what he did to be so successful in life but would be pretty awesome to be in his situation.

Take note that he also bought the AZ tag for $320,000

So that's two tags for $710,000

I'm going out on a limb here but I'm guessing he is the middle man on those tags for someone that wants to remain nameless.

Also note that 100% of the $320,000 for the AZ tag goes into the AZGFD Habitat (HPC) fund in which sportsmen are involved with how it is spent and it's only spent on habitat conservation projects. Specific to deer projects they are submitted to the local HPC committees which then go through a vetting or priority process to which get funded and when. In most cases even though a project might be targeted in helping the deer herds they create better habitat for all wildlife in the area. At other times a single project might see cross funding from multiple tag dollars, meaning elk, deer, and turkey auction/raffle tag monies fund one water catchment project.

Bingo.. I don't blame him for keeping his name out of headlines as much as he can. Discussions over these type tags usually end nastily.

So, just out of curiosity…………

How does everyone feel about these type of tags?

Personally, I hate that any part of hunting or fishing is made into "pay to play".
It tends to cater to the ultra wealthy.

However, if you are ultra wealthy, and you spend your money on hunting permits, that money goes back to the habitat and hunting related industry.
There is a lot of things that a guy like that could spend money on.
Cars, women, drugs, a 20th home, ect.

So, if a guy has that kind of cash, and puts it into helping himself to a nice animal, but helps all other animals along the way, is that so bad?

Don't know.

I do know the one thing I don't like about it.
A guy buys a deer tag for $390,000.00 and then hires a guide to find it for him, on an island.
That, to me, cheapens the entire thing. Makes it ugly.

I like to think that if I had the cash, I would buy the tag. But then do the hunt on my own.

Just interesting to think about.
