What do you use for backcountry communications

In reach you can text between units about as easy as texting on your cell phone. We use them in Alaska. We use Garmin Rhino hunting in Oregon, Colorado and Montana.

Is there any special requirements to be able to do this?

To text between Inreach devices, you exchange Inreach addresses. On your device select contacts. Then select your name. It will show your user name with @inreach.garmin.com.
