What do you use for backcountry communications

I am looking into getting something for backcountry communications, emergency and non-emergency. So, I was wondering what everyone uses and what you like about it. Things like personal locator beacons, satellite phones, SPOT, that sort of thing.

In reach you can text between units about as easy as texting on your cell phone. We use them in Alaska. We use Garmin Rhino hunting in Oregon, Colorado and Montana.

I currently use a sat phone, and although I really like being able to actually speak with my transporter, the IR Mini has been sounding more and more tempting lately.

I have been using the garmin rhinos with my boys, but hunt more solo now than anything else. Buying an Inreach for the reasons listed above.
It comes down to who are you needing to communicate with and where are they located.

Sat phone, but texting with it is laborious. Works great to call ma so she can get the meat loaf ready though ;) Been thinking about getting the iridium Go for the best of both worlds.

Inreach as well. . . Wife likes being able to see where I am, and I enjoy being able to check in as well as get weather updates

Inreach mini, I have almost a year with it and so far I have nothing to complain about, it has enough battery life for a 10 to 15 day hunt depending on how much it is used and it is super easy to use with the phone.

I started off with the original spot, shared a Sat phone and now use an inReach, which is the perfect balance of the ability to have two way communication and affordable.

I've gotten to try several models of Inreach, sat phones, and spot devices all over the Rockies and Alaska because work issued them to me. The Inreach is far and away my favorite and the one I bought for personal use.

Iridium GO! hotspot. Paired with my phone I can text and talk using my cell. Nice to be in a warm dry tent while it sits out in the cold rain too.

Up here in Alaska, it's mostly and primarily Inreach for me...and sometimes I add a SAT phone.

I've used a SPOT here in AK for years from Kodiak to the Brooks Range and it's worked fine for what I wanted it for..... send the wifey an "I'm ok message" and be able to call for the cavalry if the feces hits the oscillating rotor. Cheap but effective. Small and light, it's always in my pants pocket. Only one button to push for an SOS call if that's all I could muster because of some type of accident/injury.

I can see the value in 2 way communications depending on the logistics of a hunt.

The sat phone we used on Kodiak a few years ago was always dropping connection. Not sure what that was about.
