What do you do for work/profession?

GOOD FOR YOU! One thing to remember, the professors are being paid to teach you. Don’t let them off the hook. If you are struggling, pay them an office visit. As an example: I made a career shift and went to college nine years after high school ( wasn’t a good student in high school). I was struggling to understand some of the concepts in one of my physics classes. On one particular day before an exam, I spent six hours in the professor’s office (I recognize not all profs will be so patient). If he had to leave to teach another class, I was there waiting for him when he came back. It took a lot of work on both of our parts, but he taught and I learned.

Good luck in your new career!
Thank you! I take the SASAS Monday for placement... Been watching some youtube vids lol... And practicing a little... I'm at Clover Park Tech in Lakewood WA... Seems like an ok place...I wasn't very good in school either... I didn't graduate high school and just finished a HS+ program with them and got my diploma so I could go after this commercial electrician...

I agree with this but AI is going to touch all industries in some way, construction included. Talking to a friend in construction and he mentioned for certain builds they are experimenting with leveraging AI to have every piece of wood perfectly precut and ready to be assembled (think prefab rafters that come to sites but pretty much the whole house.) interesting stuff… I wouldn’t want to be just about to go to college these days for sure..
They already have whole framing packages for two story 3000+- square foot homes you don't have to cut a single stud, top or bottom plate for... Or floor joist... They come labeled and banded together... Been like that here for 15+ years now...

Service manager for a water purification company. North America and the Caribbean.
I enjoy the industry. Great job security.
With 6 weeks of PTO and working from anywhere starlink works, I can get out quite a bit.
It helps now. Before I took on this roll, I was a commissioning technician and traveled 80% of the year. That limited my opportunities to do much anything.

I think that's the only way I can actually picture it and see a way in figuring it out so to speak... I haven't started class yet... I have to take a test SASAS Monday for placement... Have a feeling there is going to be some pre alg involved... Which I'm ok with... I want to do well so I score high on the test in the apprenticeship program... Funny part is I have over 8000 undocumented hours in residential electrical, probably 1000 in commercial...
Depending on on the state you are in you can just skip school once you have 16000 hours.

Real estate agent, started basically right out of college when I got poached by a personal training client of mine.

I really do enjoy it, get to make amazing friendships, help people navigate what is typically a pretty stressful situation and huge financial undertaking. Providing solutions on-demand for just about anything that could come up, and arming clients with the tools to build wealth in RE is incredibly rewarding.

I'm a one man band (no team) so my schedule can be either super flexible, or absolutely jam packed. At this point it's basically impossible to plan anything too far out, as the client base is fairly large and diverse, no real off-season between my builders/developers, and sfr resale clients in our market. There is a saying among agents that if you aren't busy enough, schedule a vacation....it never fails! Busy is a blessing though.

The job allows me to hunt a lot during the week, which is my preference. Really great for local half-day bird hunts and fishing trips as well.

I do look forward to the day where cash-flowing assets replace 1099 commission entirely though. The eat what you kill life is both my favorite and least favorite part of the job, especially with a growing family. Mailbox money is way less stressful, that's for sure.

I rebuild mine trucks mostly. Mostly wrenching, but a bit of welding especially bore welding. I’d rather just weld pipe all the time but there’s not a ton of work for that here unless you travel. Been acquiring equipment and setting up my shop to start doing some manufacturing on my own.

I wish that were the case... Here in WA and OR you have to have the schooling before you can turn in the application... But if you test high in your class your pretty much guaranteed a job with high starting wage...
Ah okay. Im in Idaho so it’s a bit different. Washington really is the place to make money as an electrician, but I think I’ll stay in Idaho with my low wage 😁
