What did you do in the reloading room today?

Today is a non-fun day for the reloading setup. Have to pack it up as I’m moving. It’ll be packed away for several weeks while I finish building my new house. All this right when I was working on 6 PRC and 223 load dev ☹️

You should listen this episode of the Hunt Backcountry Podcast.
Haven't had a chance to listen yet but read some of the supplemental information.

I, my self, am not concerned about lead for me. I've ate game shot with lead, shot lead and put lead split shots in my mouth my whole life. Do I want my children, who are more susceptible to lead exposure to do that? No, because lead has been linked to a developmental issues in children. If there is something I can do something to prevent the likelihood of that possibly happening I'm gonna do that. I've siphoned gas out of a Jerry can with a okie gas card (hose) before and spray roundup, dicamba, 2-4 D and Remedy for part time work and I really dont want them doin that either

Has any of that had negative effects on you?

Well not that I know of. But there's lots of old farmers who have cancer that sprayed that stuff.
Just like there's plenty of documentation that lead affects children differently than adults.

I know some who smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day and lived till they were 92 and died in there sleep. Does that mean cigarettes don't cause lung cancer? On the other hand I knew an old boy who chewed Copenhagen long cut and gutted it and he died of colon cancer at fifty.

A maintenance day for me. Cleaned the bench tops, cleaned and lubed the press, organized containers of powder and other random stuff. I run a tight ship! 😁

I simply said you should listen to it, I wasn't trying to convince you that it wasn't an issue. There's a lot of detailed data in there that can give (at least for me) a better understanding about parameters, what to not worry so much about, and what to avoid. My wife and I are trying to have a kid and it definitely changed the way I thought about our game meat and the way we process. Take from it what you will.

Ironic, I work for an agronomy company so I'm familiar with those as well, luckily I primarily deal with fertilizer.

Anyway, I didn't do anything in the reloading room today.. 😬

I didn't mean to come across as stand offish or pissy to what you had to say. I do appreciate the link. I'm not going to give up lead entirely (at least now) but definitely in the high powers. I'm not sure if any of the copper options will work in my White muzzleloader since it's designed for soft lead bullets and I don't think anyone other than Hammer offers a bullet that's non lead for 44-40.

I've also about 300 pounds of lead shot that I need to get rid of.

But stuff that fragments, and those fragments can travel quite a distance from the entry/exit wounds, it's easier on the meat grinder and my peace of mind.

This was yesterday but I forgot until now. Went to find the lands my 700 270 that had an extractor break last year and was supposed to be fixed by the gunsmith. Set the bullet in the case mouth, insert it in the chamber and go to close the bolt. The bolt would go almost to where it would close but would not close. Tried on a factory shell and it did the same thing. As Grandpa would say either something is wrong or something's the matter

Not sure if serious or ???....

I hate reaching for a tool and it not being there. The reloading bench/garage area is my next project. My work van got it over the past couple years.
No, genuinely serious! I see the grid, but what do you do from there?

So, I guess step 1 is "have a 3D printer"

The grids hold various pieces in place by way of a corresponding bit or bits on the bottom that fit into the grid slots.

You could think of it like a horizontal pegboard of sorts.

Some of the items like the coin and AA/AAA battery holders are simple downloads from thingiverse while others like the RCBS priming tool holders and the CR123 battery holder are things that I took basic files for and customized to my own needs because what I wanted didn't exist.

Whipped out a couple 10 shot strings for my 7 mag with 168 Berger VLD’s and Retumbo and 162 ELDX in my .280 Remington with N560. I’ll have a new Athlon Rangecraft next week so I’m looking forward to trying a modern chrony with these loads that isn’t 25 years old.

Bumped the shoulder back .002 and collet neck sized 40 fully formed 223 brass and then loaded a few different charges of TAC under some Hornady 80 grn I picked up a pile of for next to nothing. Hoping my 1:8 Tikka likes them well enough. It cuts tiny little groups with 77 TMK, 77 Norma Golden Targets and Hornady 75 grn.

Case gauge for 223 came yesterday so checked some resized brass and most was gtg but a few were not. Set the Lee resize die in my old rock chucker to bump the shoulder. Turned it down too much at first but maybe an 1/8 turn was all I moved it but readjusted a few times until the slightest of overcam and bingo under the max. Took a marker to the die for reference. Will be doing all the cases (@2000?) again to make them uniform but gives me something to do but i don’t have a 223 rifle yet.
Reloading process relaxes me in the evenings.
9mm range brass will be next & thousands to do 😆
I need a 9mm pistol it seems…
