What did you do at the range today?

I'm still whacking my Cold Bore Challenge Target once a day when I can. Shot 14.

One of my minions photographed me. This is valuable info. Why was my rifle side elbow unsupported? Why?

600 yards, seated supported. 8MOA target.

Training around your kids is valuable even if they aren't shooting. I heard my older boy tell my younger boy yesterday "this isn't working out, I'm goin' prone unsupported!" They're listening.

Shot 35 rounds through the PRS rig 415-850 yards from different positions. Shot 10 rounds at rocks with the 223 while checking pivots as well this morning, 650-1022 yards.

Tried some loads out today with some new components. Also had the new zero gravity nano on my 223. The groups probably would of been a little better but mirage got bad after a couple shots on each group. All 10 round groups. The lower left was my "budget" load mostly factory second components. Going to do a little more tweaking and get a cover on the supressor.

Went out early and shot some off the bipod, tripod, and off my pack. Then when checking pivots stopped and shot a few rocks from some concrete and fence posts with my spex lite fill bag. Shots today were from 438 to 1022. Dope is lining up good. Really enjoying that tikka 223 in the folding chassis. Pushing 75s @ 2790 fps with 20” barrel.

Braved the heat and humidity to test some Badlands 6mm ARC 90gr Tac-TX loads. And threw a few other ten round groups in for good measure. All were from 100 yards.

My 13” barrel gave me 2680fps with my Omega 300 on it. One group was 1.18” and the second was .89”

Here are a pair of targets. Ignore the horribly strung out center group on the one target, damn suppressor was loose.

Pistol shooting today with a focus on switching between "confirmation 2" (shooting as soon as you see the color of the sight) and "confirmation 3" (seeing the sight as a dot shaped dot and not just a flash of color).

Set up was a 6" circle at 12yds, drawing and firing strings of 6 shots. I found that shooting confirmation 2 I could generally get 4/6 shots consistently in the circle in ~4 seconds even, with a good run having all 6 in the zone. Confirmation 3 generally brought me up to 4.5-4.8 seconds but with the norm being a score of 6/6.

Here's the result of the first 180 rounds running this drill.

20260714_180108.jpg

Key places to improve:

1. Ensuring I maintain proper wrist lock through the entire string of fire so the gun returns consistently to the same spot.

2. Avoid increasing firing hand tension through the string to maintain good trigger control.

Things to pat myself on the back about:

1. Did a good job maintaining vision focus and shooting at the intended confirmation level.

---

Second drill of the day I pushed the paper target to the far left of the bay still at 12 yds, added a 9x12" steel silhouette at 20 yards on the far right of the bay. Draw and firing 4 shots total, alternating between the two targets eg; paper, steel, paper, steel. I found on a really good run I could push down to 3.6-3.8ish seconds, but generally was more in the 4 second range.

Key places to improve:

1. Lead more with my eyes. I wasn't exactly tracking the sight during transitions, but I was starting to swing the gun earlier than I should, which caused me to frequently overswing. Which frequently caused me to have to drop to confirmation 3 to get good hits, when by all rights I should have been able to get my hits with confirmation 2.

2. Stay relaxed. I found myself building a lot of tension in my arms and shoulders, causing my transitions to be stiff and stilted instead of smooth and fluid.

Pats on the back:

1. Did a decent job with trigger control.

Good stuff. Out of curiosity, what gun and ammo were you shooting? How big's your dot?

I recently got set up with a spotting scope and camera to video my shots
to see if where I think I'm seeing the impact is where it is actually impacting.
Shooting rocks in the mountains. Very helpful. It's not always what it looks like
through the scope; for me anyways.
Fun to watch the trace too

Finding my weakest area at this point it consistent cheek weld/pressure into the shoulder.
Amazing how it affects POI at 700 yards.

Y'all talking about dry heat?

Still whacking the 8MOA 600 yard target seated supported once a day when I can.

Shot 16. 2nd worst shot of set. The bipod is twice as stable as the sticks but my wobble zone seemed ok when I commanded the gun to fire. Wind was a puffy/lull 1-2mph right to left so that's not it.
