What did you do at the range today?

Verified zero on one rifle after swapping out rings. As well as some truing on data for that set up out to 1K.

As well as got to try out my new Tikka 6.5 PRC with NX8. Gotta say I’m really digging this gun and glad I went with it over the 300wsm I was considering. Also I really like the NX8.

Sighting in, prc 2 shots, then adjusted down and left, 2 more shots, factory 147 Hornady shot great out of this gun. Almost makes me not want to reload for it.

Then immediately took it out to 1100 and made a 3rd round impact. Grossly underestimated the wind, lol.

Did some load development with the 223 and some new bullets and then shot a few stages with the PRS gun for practice.

Well the wind was pretty bad and target was slightly moving about. Add in my suck factor as a shooter and groups are not great right now. Plan on loading 10 more of those and maybe drop a half grain and load 10 of those. And see when its no so windy. Last shots started trending right but wind was blowing to the left. So kinda wierd. Maybe it was me?

What load are you using? In which rifle?

We watched a historical fiction sort of movie last night with lots of muzzleloaders. Today after church the kids and I dragged out the old T/C Hawken and I demonstrated to them how unreliable caplocks could be when you'd fogged them with oil before the last time you stored it and then didn't fully remove the oil.

(Translation: I got lazy and it bit me in the butt with 3 misfires before it hang-fired the 4th try). After it finally fired once, it was smooth sailing from there on, until the wife came home and asked why her kitchen smelled like rotten eggs.

Ran some more PRS stages with the 6 creed and the 223 this morning. 30 rounds on the creed and 50 on the 223. Beautiful morning with absolutely zero wind.

Got annoyed and pissed off that my newly re-barreled Mauser in 7x57 isn't shooting particularly well. Earlier tests were about the same as this, and close inspection of the old bedding, I saw some cracks, so I just got through re-bedding it front and rear last week. I fully encased the recoil lug area, and then bedded where the rear tang sits on the bottom side only, ensured that no metal-to-metal contact between bottom metal and action was happening, barrel is free floated, etc. So, I was hoping for something happier today, but no joy.

This was N555 + 162 ELD-X in Norma brass; the same combo that hammered 15 rounds into a 0.84 MOA on my last outing with my Tikka 7x57, so I was expecting it to at least be not totally awful here. If I overlaid this group with the other group of 5 I shot in the same gun/same load today, it's closer to 2.25 MOA.

Obviously a number of things left to try, but I've honestly never had a gun that had already been reasonably bedded shoot like this, that I later got smartened up to shooting great, so I'm honestly pretty bummed at this point. :(
