What did you do at the range today?

Not much difference between my usual groups with the Tikka today.

The 100-yard drill remains challenging with my broken leg, but I continue to attempt it. The RokStok is still awesome for all shooting positions.

The CZ 527 did slightly better with the AAC 123-grain ammunition today. I still love the Trijicon Accupoint.

My backpack wasn’t full enough to be a really good rest today. I am looking forward to having the Molinator the next time I go to the range.

I did slightly better on the 100-yard drill today, but still not a very creditable performance.

I took my Sako L579 out to the range yesterday. It’s one of the prettiest rifles I own and has historically been very accurate. I shot a nice buck with it last year. I recently changed the scope on it (put on an older B&L Elite 3000), so I figured I should sight it in, even though I will probably never hunt with it again.

I used Hornady American Whitetail 100-grain ammo.

After shooting the .243, I did an interrupted Carl Ross drill with my Tikka. I bungled the first two offhand shots and felt pretty terrible about myself. It’s hard to stay stable with the boot on my leg, but I still managed a 14/20 thanks entirely to my new pack setup, which made up for some of my limitations from the broken leg. I strapped my new Molinator onto my assault pack. So far, it’s proven quite stable with a set of old Cammies inside it. I will have to adjust the setup a bit once I stuff my heavy winter coat into it, but that is fairly easy.

There was a polite young man trying to sight in his new-to-him 2009 Marlin 336 a couple of bays down from me. He asked for my help after he spent about 25 of the 40 rounds he brought with him. The Marlin scope on his rifle was poorly mounted. The rings were half tight on one side and screwed down farmer tight on the other. I turned the rings off the base with ease, only to discover that the iron sights weren’t even on paper. It was my first time shooting a 336 and I was impressed with the recoil management. Much better than the old Winchester .30-30s I have previously used. I tried helping him fix it all up, but I had forgotten my gunsmith’s bag. Since he was so friendly and polite, I told him if he brought it back Friday morning (with at least two boxes of ammo), I would help him sort it out.

Yesterday and today's groups from my new (old stock) Tikka T3X.

No mods/straight-out-of-the-box, Talley ultra-light rings + Bushnell 3200 3-9 scope, 7mm-08, 1:9.5 twist, Norma 308 brass sized and fire-formed to 7mm-08 (1 x fired as 308, 1 x fired fire-forming, and today was 1 x fired now fully formed), 140 Sierra Tipped Game Kings (TGK), Today 41.5 grains of Varget, 2.870 OAL (.063 off the lands) @ 2795 FPS, yesterday 42 grains of Varget 2.822 OAL @ 2857 FPS.

Been too hot outside, can only do 2 shots a time with 10-15 mins cooling in between, and I only get an hour on my lunch break. But I'd say overall, this is looking very plausible -- especially considering I have my doubts still about the 140 TGK's actual accuracy potential because of notable dimensional differences between bullets in the same box and also observable runout on the poly tips. But if this accuracy holds with larger sample sizes, I'd huck lead at critters out to 500 or so yards with this.

I'll have to try some 140 Accubonds soon-ish and we'll see how they compare.

Yesterday with more Varget/more jump (2858 FPS).

Today - looking better, and a bit more to the right (I can't recall for sure, but I think I cranked the scope 3 clicks to the right after yesterday's range session).

Wrapped up the holiday weekend with a solo range trip Sunday morning.

Changed the recoil spring in the Supermatic Trophy and it was back to it's old reliable self.

Shot my cz457 22lr out to 300, vertical dispersion wasn’t great but hit the target every time aiming center of head

Went to a friend's land to sight in my 18" AR with a new load. Nothing like shooting from the back of a short bed Tacoma off a pack!
