What bullet weight for 7 rem mag?

Agreed and why I shoot a 300 win. for 1K and less and a 338 for 1K and more. My 300 win and a 215 arrives at the 1000 mark with 1946 fps and 1808 ft lbs. Still plenty enough velocity to open the bullet no doubt. You get down to that impact velocity of 1600 and below and you better catch some bone going in.

Interesting though, at the 1000 yard mark the 180 IS now the faster bullet, and has 100 ft lbs more energy. 1 K and beyond the 180 will only continue to shine more with distance.

Another consideration is if you want to be able to magazine feed and not single shot the 180s may take up more space in your case not allowing you to obtain top velocity.
This may not factor in though, I have no experience with that firearm.

I can get the 168s into the low 3000 range with H1000 or Retumbo in my 25" barreled rifle. Had 180s at 2900. It seems like the 168 Hybrid is the one it is wanting to shoot most consistently though and that is what I plan on using in mine. My son's likes the 180s a lot. With a 9.5 twist, thinking you will like the 168 hybrid more.

For something to tinker with this summer, just bought the Scenars in 150 and 180 grain 7mm. The 136 Scenars are shooting well enough in our 260 that I thought these may warrant a try. Anyone else shot the 7mm Scenars yet?

Love the 168 Bergers in my Tikka 7. Do a good barrel break in, work up a good load and they are pretty unbeatable for precision and accuracy.

They have not posted any BC info that I have seen. The 180 scenar and 180 bergers are very close in overall length. If the scenar gives up some bc to the berger, it can't be much. Will shoot a few next weekend.

Had good accuracy with the 180 scenars at 2870 fps up to around 2930 fps with a 25" barrel. Going to make some more seating depth adjustments and see what we get. Then will shoot them out to 700 to 800 yards to see about BC.

Well, i picked up some berger 168's at the local sportsman's warehouse. They didn't have any 180's so i didn't get any of those to try (for now). I learned real quick that loading to get near the lands was definitely out of the question if i wanted to load them into the magazine. I was able to get them to about 2800 fps using IMR 4831 (what i have on hand). Here is a 3 shot group at my mid length.View attachment 16398
And at the longest length i can fit in the magazine.View attachment 16399
I will definitely be doing some further testing with the longer length to see how they shoot out farther. I will have to try some loads using H1000 if i can find some. looks like i could pick up some speed maybe?

You will definitely pick up more velocity with H1000. Should get ~3000 or so...

I lucked out and got 1 lb of H1000 and 8lb of retumbo.

I was wanting to use H1000 for my 7mag load shooting 168 bergers but I'm afraid i won't be able to find anymore H1000 and 1lb isn't a lot to work with so i could end up wasting time on working up a load and after practice rounds not have much if any left so it looks like ill be shooting retumbo or stumble upon a miracle of more H1000.

As a private individual you can't ship powder to AK so I'm limited to finding it locally. So i guess retumbo it is!

If you guys can't find H-1000 or Retumbo, do yourselves a favor and buy some 7828....

I wasnt so lucky- i ran a little overmax but still was safe and only got 2850. Shot the best at 2750. I cant remember the charges at the moment. I have retumbo next to try.

With 162-168 grain bullets? I get 2950 with a 7WSM @ 68.0 H1000/162 AMAX. 7RM will take 70+ safely with corresponding velocity increase.

I'm currently shooting the 162 Amax @3040 fps with a 26" barrel. 72.1 gr H-1000. Worked the load up in .2 increments. No signs of pressure until 73 gr. The 72.1 was the most accurate.
