What barrel length on 300 RUM build

I have a build stated above that is almost to time to assemble. My original plan is 22” barrel plus can. Or should I run a 24-26” barrel with a brake? Only reason I consider brake is case size and shot spotting. Just looking for feedback

Be aware the RUM has a 100+ grain case capacity and uses a very slow burning powder to get those awesome velocity's. It needs a long tube to burn them before the bullet exits. There's a reason the factory used a 26" tube and it wasn't to be able to use your rifle for a crutch if you break a leg.

I went with a 26" and brake. I wanted the speed and performance that I had when it was factory. A bullet in the 200s grain category going 3k ish was my goal. With my goal of velocity and what I needed to achieve that I felt that a suppressor would add length and make things more awkward in the field. Or it would then be dictating my overall length which would then make my speed goal much harder to achieve.
Having shot my UM Reaper (only on my 308 so far) I believe there is some felt recoil reduction, although I'm not sure it would tame the rum all that much.
Just for thought Defensive Edge makes a LRKM (long range killing machine) that is kind of a bull pup style. You can get a long barrel in a much shorter OAL.

What brake are you running and how hard is the blast on the shooter, if any? I know in a 22” I can hit 3k comfortably in the 215 with a mild load of h1000. I figure a 26” braked is less concussive than a 22”

I built one last year and went with a 26” barrel and the srs smallest 4 port that only adds like 1 1/2” and 1 oz. Right now I’m at 10.5 lbs, but with a new stock on the way to bring it in just under 10#. I also had a Wyatt box installed and am currently running 225s at 3.815” and 3050fps with no pressure so I could easily get over 3100. With all that said, this was going to be a second rifle for me so I wanted all the performance the 300 has to offer, but still wanted to be able to carry it and fit it in a scabbard etc. the 26” with the small brake and 10# build is perfect for my application. It still fits in a scabbard, it’s not crazy to carry around and doesn’t kick or blast the crap out of me.

I'm using a Terminator T2 brake (can't remember right now pretty sure it's a T2 not a T3). Doesn't hit the shooter, I don't notice any. Anybody to the side of you you have to flip their eyelids back down tho. Spotters should really consider their place to set up. The longer barrel is going to put that farther away, you are not wrong there.
That is what is working for me. I'm not hammering the brass. Brass and barrel life shouldn't be shortened by any means. It shoots accurate and having 1800 FPS at 1100 yards is plenty.

Another thought have you looked into the suppressors with a brake added? I've heard any added noise isn't much. I have no direct experience with one.
I have an am just undecided. I really need it to be scabbard compatible as well. I have almost leaned big magnums run a brake and smaller cases with a can. Or if I want to run suppressed just deal with the length. Even short barrel suppressed is still a longer configuration

If you want a magnum that big you may as well build it for what it’s intended to be, big bullets and big velocities, and have a big brake on it. I’d say 26” for that kind of caliber. If not build a 300 PRC or fast twist 300 WM.

I’ve used 300 RUM’s from 36” down to 18” barrels. The RUM works in shorts barrels just like every other cartridge.

A 20” (or 22”) RUM with small diameter, over the barrel suppressor makes a very good hunting package if that is the cartridge one chooses.

Form,

What suppressor do you recommend. I have the Nomad tixc now. I have looked at the dead air nomax 33 and the TBAC magnus SS

There are quite a few good muzzle forward suppressors. The only OTB small diameter can that I know of that has been specifically tested and used on short barreled 30cal super mags like the RUM is the US OG. However the Gen 2 that is coming out is really better for general hunting- I.E. lighter and lower dB.
