What backpacking tents are you using when not hunting?

I'm looking for a backpacking tent with a floor that will fit me, my wife, and our dog comfortably. I'd like to fit our packs inside as well or have a vestibule to keep them covered in rain. If that's not available I can just bring my Paratarp for the packs.

GL SL5 will be plenty big enough for your wants. I'm not sure how they package them these days, but they're roomy even with the floor and netting setup. They couldn't care less when it rains, you can use cots inside, versatile setup options. They're good tents.

I have the Copper Spur 2, it's a little tight for just me and my dog , it works but I would need the 3 if my wife was coming.

I have the SL-5 now but without the stock nest. I'm using it with a custom 2 man nest but it's way to "cozy" for the three of us.

I agree, when I am not using my tarp I use a copper spur UL2 and it is perfect for me and my gear only( 6'-2" 210 lbs) but if my wife comes with I wish I had a copper spur UL3.

I just set up my Copper Spur UL4 yesterday for the first time. I had the UL2 and at 6'6" I really didn't have the room I wanted even by myself, so sold it. They must use a Chinese tape measure to measure these things because neither one is accurate. They are exactly 6" shorter on their floor dimensions when it's set up. The UL4 measures 80"x90" inside, and it's listed as 86"x96". The UL2 was listed at 90" long, and it's only 84". Add the lost space with the sloped walls and it's more effectively 78".....my height, which puts my feet and head against the wall.

But having said that, the UL4 would be a great tent for two people and their dog......but I doubt I'd ever put a dog inside a floored tent. And you can pick up the 2013 model at Backcountry for under $400........$240 off their 2014 prices.

I really like the SL5 for family backpacking.

If you want to save some weight, go with a Tarptent from Henry Shires.

My other favorite is the Nallo GT3. It would be perfect for what you're describing, but it's not cheap. The vestibule is huge too.

The North Face Mica FL 2 is a good tent for a couple. Especially if you are tall. Not the lightest at a bit over 3#, but seems more durable than some of the UL tents. It has two doors and decent sized vestibules. Your dog would need to sleep in one of the vestibules though.

I haven't used this tent, but it looks to be pretty decent tent for the price. A little heavy, especially if the total weight doesn't include the supplied footprint. http://www.nemoequipment.com/product/?p=Galaxi+2P+&+Footprint+(Earth)

For the senerio you describe; we have used the SL3, SL5, Hoopla 4 all floorless for backpacking the last few years. My dogs never go on a tent floor.

My dog's a German Short Haired Pointer so not very big but she wanders so she gets stuffed in the nest at night. Thanks for all of your input guy's, I at least have some ideas of what to look for.

Would you be interested in a stock SL5 nest? I have been tempted to pick up a second SL5 so I have a fly without the added weight of a stove jack. That said, I really wouldn't need a second nest.

I would be interested in a nest... Could just use it for summer car or boat camping when the bugs are bad

Thanks, but I gave the one away that I had because it smelled funny and I just ordered a 2 person nest from Seek Outside. We'll see how well this one works and if I have to, I'll pack in both nests, plus I plan to upgrade to either an SO BCS or Sawtooth next year so their nest should work for either one.

Thanks for all of the input guy's. After checking prices, I'm going to stick with what I have for now and the 2'nd nest.
