What Arrow Do You Use For Elk?

I'm going to be running a 3-71 A/C/C with the aluminum insert and 125 Slick Trick standards. Should be somewhere in the 500 grain range depending on exact length/nock/fletch setup.

I've only elk hunted one time 20 years ago. Killed that one with a 3-49 and a 100 grain Rocket Steelhead which has been a dynamite head for me but going with a fixed blade and a few more pounds this go around.

I will also add that I have been shooting the Victory Xtorsion. The total weight is 524 grains shooting a 72 lb bow. Is that too heavy/too slow for elk? I like the arrows otherwise. Shoot great out of my VXR.

I am shooting a 570 grain Axis right now 75 grains up front and a 100 grain broadhead. It's going about 260 fps out of the bow. It hits like a hammer, but is slower than I would lit.

I am cutting my setup down with my new bow and hoping for 270 fps for a little more range.

perfect

i have been in the 600-660gr range the past couple years, but i'm dropping back down a bit this year... i'll be shooting a 6 fletch (blazer minis) 300 spine axis match grade, 28 C to C, with 75gr brass HIT, and 125gr head.... be just over 500 i think.

my only logic for dropping back down is it's heavy enough (71lb mach 1) and i can shoot targets farther on my sight tape. 90% of my critter killing is sub 20yds, but i do like stretching things out shooting foam.

don't over complicate it, it's simple stuff, shoot them good, they die quick, shoot them bad, and you are hoping for some good luck or you will be disappointed. critters are lost with heavy and light arrows.... also killed... modern compounds are impressive weapons.

focus on shooting more than arrow builds, a lot of rabbit holes a guy can go down that won't help you in the real world, just distracts you from things that do matter.

avoid the extremes on both sides and you'll be golden

No that's actually perfect.

Victory VAP 350 .166 with AAE Stealth vanes, 100 grain Slick Trick Standard total weight 422 grains.

Love the extorsions but am shooting Vap TKOs.weight right at 500.Bit heavy for my normal pin gapping but old weaklings like me need to adjust.

My 3-71's come in at 470gr cut to 30" with 125's and 20gr of fletching.

But I'm using my GT Kinetic XT 200's cut to 30" with 125's, 16gr HIT's, Bohning A-nocks, and 2" QS vanes. They come in at 520gr.

I’m shooting the same with 50 brass and a collar with a wrap. I’m coming in at 560ish.

I was going to use my ACC's but if I did I would have had to completely change my pin gaps around, and didn't want to mess with them. I like my wider pin gaps.

And to answer your question on AT......I'm shooting 125gr Exodus this year with the swept blades. Wanted a tough head with a good size cut for moose.

My elk build is
300 BEA Spartans, extra 100 grains of brass up front, SS inserts, SS nock collar. 125 grain IW solids. MAX Stealth vanes.
Total weight is 550 grains

Gold Tip Hunter XT’s 28.25 C to C 300 spine, 70 grains between insert and FOC weight, 125 grain Magnus Stinger Killer Bee and AAE Plastifletch 2.6 4 fletch. Total arrow weight 504 grains at 270 FPS. Great compromise between flat shooting and enough momentum to go through any animal in NA.

I haven't weighed them yet, but calculaed around 500grs total. Flying great so far, sight tape of 279 fps lines up the best

Easton Axis 6mm 340

(9.6gpi x 30”) + 10gr h nock + 6grx3 vanes + 75gr insert + 100gr 2 blade stinger

Total weight = 491gr

I ended up at 524gr, which seems about ideal for what I do
