What are you all wearing for blaze orange?

whuppinstick,

How about an orange ring that is some sort of combo of mesh and elastic to meet the hat requirements? Just ordered the Kuiu Boonie and plan to make something along these lines to slip over. Got the idea from someone that said they did it with a cowboy hat. Looked up the CO law and there is nothing on there that says that it has to be any size, just that there must be a head covering visible from all directions. Mesh is legal, but discouraged.

COlineman,
This is a really interesting idea! I am working on making an orange polyester hat and beanie, but hadn't thought of a mesh ring for cowboy/boonie-style hats. This would be pretty simple to do, too. Do you think there would be issues with it 'popping' off if there is any kind of taper to the hat?

I'll see if I can get a few in my next order for testing.

Had the same concern; I was thinking that you could do something like FirstLite did on the North Branch pants built-in gaiters and put some silicon on the inner cuff to keep it from slipping. I'm sure there are other more secure ideas, but most would require modification to the hat itself.

The mesh hat band is an interesting idea.

The runner's/bike rider's mesh safety vests work really well. Just pull the reflective strip off with a seam ripper tool and you are good to go. They will fit over any clothing because of the strethy elastic on the sides, and donn't absorb water. Also, they are only about $10.

Yeah, something along those lines, but would prefer mesh as I hunt ML and only want to have it meet the legal requirements. If I were to go OTC rifle I'm going to make sure I have a full orange hat, vest, and pack cover. I personally think it's stupid that ML has to wear orange when someone can be decked out in full camo in the same area at the same time if they are carrying a bow. At that point it's no longer accomplishing the safety factor because it's not the guy shooting, but its the guy hiding in the bush with a bow that is at risk of getting shot.

I ran the Orange Aglow vest and pack cover this year and it worked out well for me. Definitely way better than the one size fits no one from Wal Mart. It's light, dries quick and is durable. It's a good product and I'm pretty happy with it.

i made a hat cover vaguely similar to this orange band and like it a lot. it does tend to slip off so i added some very small [ half inch square] pieces of velcro to keep it in place. it is a good idea!

Looks good. Do you think it'll fit on a baseball hat as well?

I tried it today and I don't think it will work very well. I think baseball caps curve to the top of your head too quickly to keep this design in place. But you could just buy an orange baseball cap, which I should be selling in 2016. :)

I'll vouch for the Orange Aglow stuff, too. There's not a whole lot you can say about it except it does its job and I don't resent it (resentment has been the case with previous blaze orange clothing).

I wear a thin polyester vest with velcro waist strap that I got for free from ADFG here. It's super bright blaze orange.

Thanks Poser! That pretty much sums up the product I wanted to design: a quiet legal vest that doesn't get in your way. And soon we're coming out with a Youth Large vest that will meet the legal requirements in every state (that doesn't also require a hat).

Sitka Gear has some nice, functional blaze orange items in their lineup this year. This year I wore the vest and the stocking caps. Very high quality, with nice features.

I'm running the Kryptek vest this year. My review will be finished soon.

The blaze orange blizzard beanie is awesome. That with a first lite merino neck gaitor can keep your head, ears, face, and neck nice and toasty in the coldest of early morning, late season temps. Super light and packable as well.
