what am I lookin for

I am so over cell phone pics. Time for a real camera.

Last camera I had was near 18 years ago. Panasonic TZ5 IIRC. Was very happy with the thing. I want a simple point an shoot camera, 10x optical zoom at minimum, prefer something that will fit in a shirt pocket. I'm cheap but if I need to spend near $1k to get what I want, it is what is.

I dont need a camera that has WIFI or capable of taking selfies. What am I lookin for?

I have been watching for this camera since your recommendation. I see it is finally available again at some stores.

Would you still recommend this camera a year later? For a good, compact, point and shoot camera under $1000. I don't need waterproof. I do want it small and light so that I put it in my coat or pack pocket and carry it with me wherever I go without it being a burden.

Also, can you help me convince myself that a small point and shoot is worth it these days over the a phone camera? I take a lot of pictures and each year print off the best to be framed or printed on canvas around the home and for gifts. I will still need to carry my phone on hunts for messaging and mapping, so the camera is an additional item to carry.

I've had several small P&S's and would not recommend them to anyone. Problem with the ones I had is they've had a fairly short service life. Last P&S i bought is a Panasonic zs100. I carry it in a belt pouch and this is a really nice camera. have some photo's I've blown up to 12x24 and they impress me! Lens is a Lica 25-250 and pretty much covers all I need. Next up their line is one with a longer lens but still Lica! I',ve had Canon, Nikon and HP be side this Panasonic! Oh yea This Panasonic won't fit in your shirt pocket.
