What 6mm for a trainer and a hunting rifle?

If you are OK with AW or AICS mags using a spacer, I think the dasher would make an awesome practice gun. Alpha brass and the alpha reamer is the easy button. My current tube has just under 2,000 rounds and I haven't touched my velocity or load since it was broken in.

I'm old school so I'd say .243 AI or if you're looking for a neat little round then go for 6x45, it's not a screamer but they work well and minimum recoil.

I chose a 6creed myself for your reasoning here (i.e., similar barrel life). But ammo is generally more available and cheaper on a 243, so for a trainer I’d give it the nod over 6creed. That said, I wouldn’t (and didn’t) choose either for a trainer rifle.

His Origin has the ability to quickly, at minimal cost, swap in a 6 ARC.

I am biased towards the 6 ARC. My trainer is a 6 ARCSavage that shoots lights out. Not only are there inexpensive bullets available, but the powder charge is rather small given the velocity one can get.

The only disadvantage is brass availability, but it is easy to convert 6.5 Grendel brass. Furthermore, Starline has started to roll out 6 ARC headstamped brass.

I am very happy with my Savage 6arc. I loaded up some 108eldm with cfe223 from resized Grendel brass. They are shooting Moa at almost 2900fps.

Sounds like you are looking for a 6 creed, with the limiting constraint being that you don't want a 6 creed.

My 6ARC is in a MDT Chassis and it feeds fine from the metal mags I bought. I forgot the brand, but they come with a little spacer at the back so everything feeds right.

I don't know how well a 6BR feeds.

You will learn more from a .223 than any other “trainer” rifle/round. IF you get off the bench and tripods and shoot it in field positions. OH and there is a giant thread about death with .223 on here.

And you can shoot decent factory ammo for the price of 6mm components and spend that load bench time denting primers instead!

If barrel life matters, I can not see why you would shoot anything but 6 ARC. People make way to big a deal about “brass”. In 6 ARC Hornady brass is just fine and you’re looking at 4,000’ish rounds of field barrel life.
