If someone wants to “rush” and drop to a knee and take an unsupported shot at 200 yards in 15 seconds. They could take 25 seconds and use a bipod or front rest and double their hit rates.

Correct. That is not what I meant in what I wrote.

What I am saying is that say someone does 20 untimed shots into the 1 MOA circle. Then, when they are timed at 10 seconds per shot (from the same position/rest) that group has rounds out to 2.5 MOA. That same shooter misses 1 MOA targets in the field (especially on animals)- whether timed or not, that even when accounting for wind- they should not have. But when you go back and look at how many shots miss or would have missed a 2.5 MOA target, it is none- or very very few.

In other words the “group” on the 10sec per shot timed portion is a much better indicator of say the 95% probability of that shooter mechanically being able to hit targets.

Makes perfect sense to me and would be exactly what I’d expect when going from perfect prone range trip shooting, to actual field shooting (even using the same support system).

Totally understandable. Easy to miscommunicate online just typing things out. I was trying to refer to taking time to setup more stable postitions instead of rushing to an unstable position. I don’t come across very clear sometimes.

I’ve got one for you to try out, how does hit rate change between a 22 cal 80 ELDM at 3100 fps vs a 147 ELDM at 2900 fps with all other factors the same besides wind uncertainty? The 147 has roughly 30 percent less total wind drift, but i am curious if that translates directly to hit rate with say 3-5 mph wind uncertainty. Trying to decide if i want to build a 6.5 saum or just shoot stuff with my 22gt, lol.

What would you like for the wind entered with each bullet? And yardage?

Let’s call it 600 yards? With the rifle accuracy/ MV SD etc all the same. Maybe 10 mph with a +/- 3 mph error? Not totally sure all the inputs required. Just trying to compare hit rates in two identical scenarios with 2 different cartridges, and seeing if there is a statistically significant advantage in hit rate from a wind perspective to going up to a 6.5 saum with a 147

It seems as if we’ve gotten this figured out, but I have it straight from the source now.

All variables (including wind call) but excluding rifle precision are 1 SD value. Your garmin shows a SD of 8 for a 20 round group, you input 8. Precision is your 20 round or composite 5 round or whatever you decide group size.

Awesome. That’s what I figured after watching their video as well. Thank you 👊🏼.
 
The moral of using a wez, become a good wind caller! If you have a 1moa gun, and you can build a decent position, the biggest thing that's gonna F you is the wind. Buy a small cheap wind meter. Keep it in your pocket, take it with you on the job, walks hikes. Feel the wind, take a guess at velocity, take a reading. Your mind will catch on quickly!

I know guys who will be within 2mph 95% the time. They're very competent shooters! I have a calypso wind meter and use it at matches, it tracks real-time wind at shooter position, it's also very good cuz it time logs everything. The wind will gust up and I'll guess what it's up to, then can go back and check it. See how close I am.

I'm getting a lot better at gaging the wind with these tools and being constantly alert and thinking about it.

I'm lucky I have some huge canyons to shoot in.
one thing I started doing to both test myself and learn from is only shoot 1 or two shots at a target (rock usually).
The idea is every shot is a "cold bore" on a new target.

I pick a target, do all the things and fire a shot. If it hits, cool. If not, why? was it my form or wind or...

Some days I'll give myself one follow up shot as a confirmer, some days I don't.

Then I pick another target with a totally different range, angle and wind situation and repeat.

I try to pick a spot that is the same size or smaller than the precision of the rifle so I can guage how I'm actually shooting.

I can repeat from the other side of the canyon or a different time of day and its all different.

That's my thought process.
I'm not saying I'm a master by any means, just that it helped me improve quickly.
