Headed there next week for a mission trip to work on a few church buildings. Is there anything to do around there? We have a few evenings off and Sunday after church.

I would really like to see DC but it looks like its 4 hrs away and the other guys dont really want to go...

If you have never been to DC you should really go.

North branch of Potomac River and Deep Creek lake aren’t too far if you want to fish.

I'm sure there are plenty of places to fish.

I have to go to DC every once in a while for work. It is definitely worth visiting at least once. Some really cool architecture and museums. I would suggest train and taxi and foot driving through and parking IS horrible. When i lived in Jersey I would drive to Delaware and take the train in. Everyone from our philly office does the same.

Savage river state forest and Deep Creek Lake come to mind. Deep Creek is about 20 miles from there. And sure DC can be fun but this time of year it can be a tourists nightmare. I’m not a big fan of going to DC but then again I live in the area so I might just be jaded.

I am a history guy, so I would go to Harper's Ferry, WV. A lot of history and great antique shops. Antietam National Battlefield is in Maryland and is probably within 2 hours, as well. One of the bloodiest battles of the civil war. Make great day trips.

You will be in the forgotten part of Maryland. I don't know much of what is around there. But if you head east towards Winchester VA you can get into some battlefield areas. Being a horse person you might enjoy seeing the northern VA horse country. Lots of fox hunting history. They will shut down roads up there while they are hunting. 60 riders, probably 100+ dogs.

Harper's ferry is a pretty cool area. Probably a couple hour trip from Western Maryland. If you have questions you can pm me if you prefer. If your group is looking for stuff to do lots of outfits in that area do rafting/canoe trips. Might be something different to try.

Maybe rafting or tubing on Sunday afternoon. Walk on the C&O. Or just drive around. Its a pretty area - old mountains and small towns. Western/central maryland also has some unique ties to the cold war - some of it still in use, but you can't really see it.

As mentioned park outside DC and take VRE train or metro. I just spent the past year working in DC and it is super congested and crowded in Summer
