West Virginia Elk?

Has anyone hunted Elk in West Virginia or Kentucky? I live in eastern Virginia and these 30 hour drives out west are getting old.

Not yet..I have a farm in WV that is between the KY herd and the WV herd...

The NC herd is growing. I'm hopeful for them to start selling tags in the next decade or two.
I've heard KY is not optimal but have no first hand experience.

Haven't looked into much as I haven't drawn a tag but it seems like most of the elk are on old strip mines, aka private, so you need a guide to get access.

That's my home state and I forgotten that they'd reintroduced the elk there. Just a short drive from Georgia, so I'll have to keep my eye on things there.

What’s up with KY

Supposedly most of the elk are on private land, guides are crazy expensive, and the mining industry has left it's mark on the land.

Kentucky Elk Questions

Was wondering if anyone had experience in Kentucky? I heard not much public land available. Is it possible to get on private with kill fee or maybe a semi guided?
