Long story short, I've started my weight loss journey, and thus far....it's going good. My goal for this year is to hike the North-South Trail in LBL (Land Between the Lakes).
Here's the details of the trail.
55.8 miles
4,701 feet of elevation gain
I'm doing this to prep for western style hunts and backcountry fishing trips.
Im planning on doing it in 4 days....may be a challenge, but this whole process is for me.
Putting dates together now, first part of October.
Any interest? Backpack style hike. Eastern/Smaller version of the Death Hike lol

LBL isn't much of a challenge but start where you can and work your way up. There is a lot of more challenging terrain in the Shawnee Nat Forest in south east Illinois. You could do 5000 ft elevation gain (and loss) over 10-12 miles in a single day out west or the higher Appalachian peaks, so take that into consideration.

I thought 55ish miles in 4 days would be a huge challenge lol

Do what you can to start and move up. Increased capability comes with time and work. No shame in starting where you can, only in not trying. I just don't want you to have unrealistic expectations when you go out west if you have not prepared adequately.

Good on you for setting the goal and planning for success. Years ago I hiked it as a series of day trips and it was enjoyable.

LBL also had a great whitetail population. I hunted there every time I got drawn in the lottery but I have not been there in a long time.

I lived in Paducah and love LBL.

55 miles in 4 days sounds like a great plan. It will defintely have some challenge. And it will let you flesh out your systems (pack, sleeping, food, water, boots, shelter, etc).
