Closing grazing allotments on Weminuche Landscape essential to promote viable populations of bighorns

I've seen the sheep and Big Horns in very close proximity before. I've called in and been told that they make sure they stay away from each other. Had the chance to talk to one of the ranchers that was checking on his shepherds and it was interesting to get both perspectives.

I wouldn't hold my breath, I'm sure it'll get closed to grazing opportunities. The sheep study conducted this summer up there wasn't very successful.

I have no idea how important those grazing allotments are to the USFS/BLM, but I'd wager that applications and licenses to shoot a bighorn will generate more income (but that goes to the state and not the BLM/USFS) if they could increase the wild sheep population enough. They had grazing totals of $14.5m total over 16 states in 2015. At ~$2,500/tag for non-residents, it doesn't take long to get to $14.5m. And it would take an awful lot of sheep tags to outstrip demand.

You are right time to fire the sheep rancher and put him on unemployment. We should also fire all the Federal firefighters to since its proven fire supports better wildlife, we should also just move all NF and BLM land to straight wilderness. That way won't be any cattle competing. Nor roads that need to be maintained.
