Just got the gun a couple months ago finally got to shoot it the other weekend. Loaded Nosler brass with 4831sc 55gr 160 AccuBond. That is the minimum load in the book, cratered the primers. Also shot Nosler trophy grade 160 partitions and they also cratered. Was wondering if anyone is having the same issue with their gun.

Are you having hard extraction / bolt lift when ejecting the fired round?

The primers dont look flattened at all. My guess would be a very sloppy fit between firing pin and bolt face or something goofy with the firing pin?

What primers are they? that is quite a bit of flow.

I use a lot of 210s and get pretty good primer flow on moderate loads with certain bolts. They just seem a bit softer than some.

It doesn't look to be from high pressures in your case.

I agree. Primers are oddly rounded for any sort of pressure really. I have seen similar before with what wind gypsy describes. Firing pin channel too open.

Cant hurt to see what they have to say about it. If there is a clear industry expectation for this type of thing i'm unaware of it. It's not something they should be proud of though.

I agree with the opinions already here. Why don't you fire a primer in an empty case and compare that to primers from real fired cases. You might have one heck of a firing pin spring! I don't get excited until the outside radius of the primer gets smaller. As pressure increases, the primer will flow and the outside radius will get smaller and smaller. Eventually, the primer will squish to take up all the available space. That happens right before the bolt goes through your eye socket. But in all honesty you're nowhere close to that.

Also, make sure your chamber is absolutely dry when you're shooting, and make sure you get absolutely all of the Case lube off your cases. All I have to do to scare the heck out of myself is to leave Case lube on one cartridge. The bolt will be hard to raise and the brass will flow slightly into the ejector hole because the case cannot grip the chamber like it should when the gun fires.

I explained what was happening to Sierra customer support. They said, " yeah that happens if your chamber or cartridge is oily. Don't do that".
