Recently bought a Weatherby 307 in 7PRC. It comes with a 3.715” AICS mag. I got 2 questions.
1. Does anyone know of a 3rd mag that will be flush?
2. What would it take to swap it for a hinged floor plate?

I don't think I can answer your question but, I looked at one in 6.5 PRC yesterday. It was at Scheels. It almost went out the door with me (...of course after the 3 day life saving waiting period). But I keep drifting back to either a Tikka or Browning lightweights in one of the 6.5's.

I liked the ergonomics of it and it shouldered/fit very well for me with minimal adjustments. I'd like to see a lighter version though. Even the Alpine model runs 6.8+/- lbs depending on caliber. For a floor plate conversion maybe the Weatherby custom shop has a solution. MDT makes 3, 5, and 10 round AICS magazines. I would think the 3 round mag would fit/be compatible.

Check with MDT. Maybe they have one for the 700 action, clone.

looking forward to your review. i'm looking at the one with the wooden stock.

The MDT mag is CIP length. I didn't read the fine print and ordered 2 of them, which don't fit in the mag well as they are too long.

I did a quite a bit of searching for 3 round magazine and called around to a few mfg to try and avoid reordering mags that don't work. I was to the point of ordering the entire Hawkins bottom metal and two flush mags but the price point pushed me to the workbench. I don't have a hawkins magazine to look at but suspect the angle of the Magpul mag well could be modified/flattened to get it to work. I thought about that approach but had the MDT on hand and felt like sacrificing that polymer mag to see if i could get it to work.

I disassembled one of the mags and shortened it to fit. It took some time and tinkering to get it to properly fit but I LOVE having a flush 3 round in the gun as the primary as I can now carry it on the balance point, which happens to be right where the front half of the magazine is situated. after a few final touches on the follower (not sure if thats what its called, basically the piece that the lowest round rides) it feeds well. I carry the factory 5 round magazine as the backup in case it gets western.

The modifying process was a fun one but i did it all with mostly a bench top belt sander, a dreml, and a file. It fits and feeds great. only issue i have is a vibration noise if i bump the gun on something. I believe its the spring reverberating in the magazine. not sure how to remedy that.

I’ll buy one or two of these modified mags from you if you are up for doing them!
