I think a great meetup would be at the KC RMEF banquet Mar 5th :). I'll talk Aron into donating something good. Rokslide sponsors have been good to the KC RMEF chapter.

I was going to suggest that as well. Could even do something the next day if people wanted to get together to check out other's gear.

Any of you OP'ers shoot at Shawnee Mission Park?

I used to shoot at SMP but its been a couple years. Powder Creek has a decent set up with 3D targets and a small elevated stand but it's more expensive. Free with an annual ~$125 membership to the gun club otherwise I believe it's $10-$15/day for non members.

I work downtown and was going to try to find somewhere relatively close that I could shoot over lunch. Just one of those things on the to do list that I haven't got to yet.

Let me know if you find something. I'm working in KCK, considering just driving back behind one of the buildings and setting up the block. Doubt anyone would say anything.

I was just researching RMEF KC last week, put an alert on my calendar to get tickets.

What's the membership like? I've done the Quail Unlimited thing, and honestly couldn't get along with the old stuffy single malt know it all Filson types. Are there many archery DIY backpacker folks in attendance?

It will be a mix. I attended the banquet last year and plan to help Tim on this year's banquet. You will definitely get a sample of people as you describe that are maybe more old school and not necessarily into the backpacking thing. However, most seem to be good folks and not really the stuffy know-it-all. But, this can be used to your advantage. Tim did a great job of getting sponsors to donate some great gear. Last year Enlightened Equipment donated a quilt. When Tim had to explain what it was and it's benefits, most of the older crowd didn't get it and didn't care. I already had two EE quilts so I didn't bid but someone get a great deal on a quilt. As with any banquet like this, there will always be a few folks with way too much money to blow but that helps the cause too. Overall, it was a great time and I highly recommend attending.

Luked, that is exactly what I was thinking. Around here it can be difficult to get your hands on different gear, especially niche items not in stores like packs, shelters, etc.

I know exactly what you mean, the KC membership is very diverse and mostly laid back and easy going. I'm the chair of the KC chapter and feel we have a good blend between experienced long term guys and new upcoming guys.

Ticket prices will be reduced this year now that we are not required to collect membership dues for people attending. We usually have one raffle that is around $40 a ticket with a very limited number of tickets sold, usually we use a deck of cards etc. not sure what all we'll have this year as the planning is just getting started and merchandise ordered.

We will have a Garmin Rhino with onyx maps cert for sure.

Kifaru, TAG game bags, Enlightened Equipment, FHF Gear and Heads Up Decoy have donated goods in the past.

@colonel00 and @dotman (<-- no idea if this feature works on this board or not) thanks for the replies. I'll attend the banquet assuming life doesn't get in the way. Many of the sponsors mentioned are on my requisition list for next year anyway.

I'd be up for a gear comparo meeting, too, but can it wait till after hunting season? Some of us are still trying to kill things. :)

Any deetz on the EE stuff that will be there? With the leadtimes I'm considering ordering one now in time for spring turkey season, but will wait if I can just get it at the RMEF banquet. If you haven't spec'd it yet, I'd for sure bid on a Revelation, 10 or 20 degree in the hydrophobic down, Reg/Reg, in natural colors.

Also, let me know if you need any help on Garmin stuff, "I know a guy."

I will be there and I know dotman will be as well. If people want to do anything before or after, speak up now and we can get something planned.
