Guns haven't changed, they haven't suddenly become evil.........people have changed, society has changed. But all the focus is on guns instead of the nutjobs for some idiotic reason.

The new war is the war on guns, used to be the war on drugs, which was such a success. It's easier to blame a tangible thing, so the focus is on suppressing the instrumentality rather than address the underlying problem of why people shoot up schools or choose to use drugs and live the lifestyle that goes along with it. Plus, it makes a better campaign slogan capable of fitting into a 30 second ad spot.

As far as Dick's goes, they've been slowly getting out of outdoor sporting goods for years. I work near one and walk through regularly. They used to have a good selection of turkey hunting supplies, 6 to 8 types of tree stands, ice fishing stuff seasonally, and lots of other stuff. All of this has shrunk or been eliminated. I suspect this is an economic decision rather than anything political, though if they can milk some political mileage out of it and bring in a certain clientele, I'm sure they will.

I think you are the only person who thinks the war on drugs was a success. What made you arrive at that decision?

Pretty much like the folks that childproof their homes, instead of training the kids from the start. We've never child-proofed anything for our three kids. But they sure as heck knew better than to get into stuff they weren't supposed to. Yep, training, discipline, punishment, a real judicial system with real deterrents........those are all harder and take more work than just blaming guns, but they are so much more effective tools for combating crime and delinquents.

I think we spoke to soon. I just read a news story stating that the families of any of the Sandy Hook victims have been cleared by the Connecticut courts to sue Remington arms? C'mon Supreme court!

I can't see this going anywhere. It would set an absolutely terrible precident.

They mentioned something about the way the gun was advertised. It could say "use this to kill tyrants" and it wouldn't be crossing any lines to any red blooded American. I can't imagine the add mentioned shooting innocents in an elementary school.

Yes.........the lawsuit claims that ARs are advertised to "troubled" young men and militaristic types of people.

And advertised to every other law-abiding citizen of the United States, which has the right to purchase and bear these arms. I don't think I've ever seen an ad that targeted mental cases as their target audience. This lawsuit shouldn't go far.
